Timothy Takach (Bass)

Born: USA

The American bass singer and composer, Timothy C. Takach, obtained his Baachelor of Arts degree in in Music Theory and Cmposition from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota (1996-2000), where he graduated with honors. At the same time he studied there Studio Art, Graphic Design.

Inspired by captivating narrative, speculative fiction and making better humans through art, the music of Timothy Takach has risen fast in the concert world. Applauded for his melodic lines and rich, intriguing harmonies, he has received commissions and premieres from a wide variety of organizations including Roomful of Teeth, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus, St. Olaf Band, Cantus, Pavia Winds, Lorelei Ensemble, VocalEssence, the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, The Rose Ensemble, and numerous high school and university choirs. His compositions have been performed on A Prairie Home Companion, The Boston Pops holiday tour, multiple All-State and festival programs and at venues such as the Library of Congress, Kennedy Center and Royal Opera House Muscat.

In September 2005, Timothy Takach co-founded Graphite Publishing as an online digital vocal music publisher, representing many of the top vocal composers in the country and 19 other independent publishers. He is also co-creator of the theatrical production of All is Calm: the Christmas Truce of 1914, by Peter Rothstein. The critically adored show has had over 120 performances since its premiere in 2006. He was also selected for the 2014 Nautilus Music-Theater Composer-Librettist Studio. In 2018 his oratorio We, the Unknown premiered at the Folly Theatre in Kansas City, featuring the Heartland Men’s Chorus, and in 2019 Su Rahva Koda (The House of Your Kindred) was premiered by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. 2019 also saw the premiere of Helios, Takach’s new 65’ work for a cappella choir inspired by the solar system. In 2015 he placed third for The American Prize for Composition for Wind Ensemble for his piece Frost Giant. In September 2016 together with composer/performers Jocelyn Hagen, he co-founded Nation, a collaborative vocal band from Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. Blurring the lines of pop, classical, a cappella, singer/songwriter, folk and many other genres, Nation’s sound defies definition, and commands attention from the stage.He currently serves as Composer-in-Residence for The Singers - Minnesota Choral Artists (since September 2019) and the Texas Boys Choir (September 2020-May 2022).

Timothy Takach was a co-founder of the professional vocal ensemble Cantus, and sang with the group for 17 years (September 1996-July 2013) and continues as a freelance singer with Seraphic Fire (2014-2018), True Concord (since January 2019), and VocalEssence. He also sang with Limestones (1999-2000), and Cantus (July 2000-July 2013), and Oratory Bach Ensemble. He models healthy community and singing as a dynamic conductor with honor choir and festivals in the USA and abroad.

Timothy Takach has frequent work as a composer-in-residence, presenter, conductor, clinician and lecturer for conventions, schools and organizations across the country.
