Judith Sportel (Soprano)

Born: 1972 - Hoogeveen, the Netherlands

The Dutch soprano, Judith Sportel, grew up in a family in which she came into contact with music and singing at a young age. Via the music school Menso Alting College Hoogeveen (1985-1991), where she received piano and singing lessons with Gerrit Jan Rutgers, the choice to study music was quickly made. She studied classical singing at the Conservatorium in Zwolle with Lodewijk Meeuwsen (1992-1998), where she graduated in 1996 with great success. During her studies she made ample knowledge with a wide range of varied and diverse repertoire. She attended master-classes with many well-known singing educators. Currently she is being coached by Joke de Vin.

Judith Sportel is a freelance musician in oratorios, Lieder and concerts since 1996. Already during her studies she performed frequently as a soloist. She is now a sought-after soloist with various choirs, vocal ensembles and orchestras. Directed by numerous conductors she sang (often with prominent vocalists) in various oratorios. Shine rolls were in the great works of J.S. Bach, (including: Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245)), George Frideric Handel (The Messiah, Joshua) and various other oratorios, Requiems, cantatas, masses and motets by, among others, Antonio Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, Gabriel Fauré, Felix Mendelssohn, Edward Elgar, John Rutter, etc.

Judith Sportel has also given Lieder recitals at home and abroad and gave concerts in the major cathedrals of Paris, London, Prague, Brussels, Metz, etc.

Judith Sportel regularly provided solo support for radio, TV and CD recordings.
