Ulrike Sonntag (Soprano)

Born: 1959 - Esslingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The German soprano, Ulrike Sonntag, completed her voice studies in Roumania and Berlin. She worked in interpretation classes with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Aribert Reimann and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and received several scholarships. The soprano won 1st prizes in the Mozartfest competition in Würzburg 1983 and in the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb in Bonn in 1985.

In 1983, Ulrike Sonntag made her opera debut at the Hamburg State Opera. Since 1991, she has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera. She gave guest performances at nearly all opera houses of the world. Besides that, her accomplishments include an extensive concert activity, to which numerous radio, television and disc recordings bear witness. She has made herself a name as an interpreter of songs, too.

Ulrike Sonntag is also an acclaimed voice teacher. She has taught at the Musikhochschule Freiburg in Freiburg im Breisgau, and at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart (since 2005). Among her pupils and/or singers who have attended her master-classes: Mariam Aloyan (Mezzo-soprano), Seda Amir-Karayan (Contralto), Andrea Conangla (Soprano), Keiko Enomoto-Chaintreuil (Soprano), Sebastian Franz (Tenor), Johannes Fritsche (Baritone), Mirella Hagen (Soprano), Sophia Körber (Soprano), Johannes Mooser (Baritone), Julia Obert (Soprano), Małgorzata Rocławska (Soprano), Angela Sindeli (Soprano), Ewandro Stenzowski (Tenor), Hitoshi Tamada (Tenor), Kento Uchiyama (Bass-Baritone), Anja Zügner (Soprano).
