Accademia dei Solinghi (Instrumental Ensemble)

Founded: 1990 - Italy

In 1990, when "Invito a Cone" - a series of concerts in the Pidemont castics - was held for the first time, a vocal and instrumental ensemble was formed that would specialise in the repertoire of the composers who worked at the court of the Savoia royal family between the 16th and 18th centuries - a repertoire still largely unexplored. The ensemble's name was chosen as a tribute to the Academy founded in the 1600's by Cardinal Maurizio di Savoia; Rita Peiretti, a renowned scholar and performer of early music, was called to lead the newly-formed group.

Since then the Accademia dei Solinghi has appeared in more than 100 concerls both in Italy (at the "Associazione per la Musica Antica" in Palermo, "Concerti di Musica Antica" at Ravello, "Festival di Musica Antica" at Ventimiglia, "Festival delle Dimore Alfieriane", "Concerti per la Sindone" in Turin) and abroad (Auditorium of the Prado Museum in Madrid, "October Concerts" of Carthage's Acropoleum, St Cecilia's Hall of the Edinburgh Museum of Historic Musical Instruments, Hacettepe University in Ankara, the theatre of Smirne). The Accademia dei Solinghi has given several first performances in modern times, of chamber and orchestral Works as well as of the following operas: Sigismondo d'India's La Zalizura (1618?), Quirino Gasparini's Mitridaie Re del Ponto (1767) and Pietro Veccolli's lntermedi delle Sirene (1595).
