Sign Singers der VHS Tübingen (Sign Language Choir)

Born: Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The Volkshochschule Tübingen (Tübingen Adult Education Center) is the first VHS in the country to have its own sign language choir, the Sign Singers (German Gebärdensprachchor "Sign Singers" der VHS Tübingen), under the direction of the experienced sign language interpreter Rita Mohlau.

The Sign Singers simultaneously translate songs into German sign language in order to bring music and lyrics closer to deaf people. The VHS sign language choir enables deaf people to participate in cultural life, reduces fear of contact with deaf people and has an integrative effect. People of different social and cultural backgrounds come into contact with each other despite language barriers.
