Simone Rønn (Contralto)

Born: Denmark

The Danish contralto, Simone Rønn, studied at the Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium (Royal Danish Music Conservatory) with Anne Margrethe Dahl, Susanna Eken and Margrete Enevold (2005-2010), where she obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in 2008. Since 2010, she has been taught at Professor Julie Kaufmann at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. During the study period at the Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium she participated in the master-classes with Mona Julsrud, Malcolm Walker, Martin Isepp and Bo Skovhus. In addition, she has been to master-class with Douglas Yates at the Operaen i København, Jill Feldman in Tomar, Portugal and Christa Ludwig in Warsaw, Poland. Most recently, she participated in the Rullende Opera/Dansk Skuespillerforbunds master-class with Christopher Cowell. In 2003, she won Edith Guillaume's classic award at the "Unge Sangere" competition in Ikast.

Simone Rønn is a freelance singer since 2010. She has primarily worked with Baroque music and has performed as a soloist in numerous contexts, including in George Frideric Handel's Messiah, (Re-baroque orchestra in Sweden, 2010; with Peter Spissky and Camerata Øresund, 2013, 2014 & 2015) Antonio Vivaldi's Stabat Mater and J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), W.A. Mozart's Requiem with the Dutch ensemble Krashna Musika in Hamburg, Malmø and Copenhagen (2008). In 2010, she made her debut at the Kgl. Teater i Opera Akademiets, msinging Francis Poulen'sc Karmelitterindernes samtaler, conducted by Marc Soustrot. In 2011, she sang at the International Handel Festival in London the cantata Mi Palpita il cor. and was soloist in Jean Alain's Messe Modale and Maurice Duruflé's Requiem. She is also a member of Copenhagen Soloists (Director: Jonathan Ofir).

Simone Rønn has also given many Lieder recitals and has sung solo parts in more romantic and belcanto works such as Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle, (2012) Johannes Brahms' Altrhapsodie (2012) and Dvorak's Stabat Mater. In scenic productions, she has performed as Katisha in Gilbert/Sullivan's Mikado (2008), 3. dame and 3. dreng in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (2005, 2008) and Zita in Gianni Schicchi with Egnsteatret Undergrunden (2015-2016). She participazted as opera and concert singer at the CPH Opera Festival bin Copenhagen (August 2015-August 2016).

On CD Simone Rønn can be heard as Messagiera and Speranza in Copenhagen Soloists' live recording of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo.
