Kristina Rodel Sorum (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: October 10, 1992 - East Bristol, Wisconsin, USA

The Americam mezzo-soprano, Kristina Rodel Sorum, obtained her Bachelor's of Music degree in Voice from the University of Minnesota, with a minor in Mass Communications through the school of Journalism (2011-2015). She is currently pursuing a graduate degree (Master of Professional Studies) in Arts and Cultural Leadership in order to grow her expertise in organizational leadership, cultural competency, and the many opportunities and challenges faced by arts organizations (since 2020; expected graduation in 2023).

Kristina Rodel Sorum is a Minneapolis-based singer with a breadth of experience as a soloist and chorister. Passionate about all forms of vocal music, she is equally comfortable performing as a soloist in a major symphonic work as singing Renaissance polyphony in an intimate chamber setting. Since completing her studies at the University of Minnesota, she has sung regularly in ensembles such as the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers (since August 2016), The Singers - Minnesota Choral Artists, The Minnesota Chorale, and MPLS (imPulse). She has also appeared with the Twin Cities Fringe Opera, Twin Cities Early Music Festival, Lakes Area Music Festival, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, and Prague Summer Nights Young Artist Festival. Most recently, she was selected as a 2020-2021 Season Artist with the Thursday Musical Artist Series and was the first place winning singer at Source Song Festival’s SongSLAM competition in 2020.

In collaboration with friend and colleague, Elizabeth Roddy, Kristina Rodel Sorum has co-hosts and co-produces Art More Lovely: a podcast exploring the life and work of artists in the Twin Cities and beyond. With an impressive roster of guests who have been interviewed about their art and process, the hosts also dive into topics such as Art Theft, Imposter Syndrome, and most recently, Fame-Adjacent Women: female artists whose proximity to fame had the power to ignite or extinguish their careers.

Kristina Rodel Sorum has served at The MasterWorks Festival, the Lyra Baroque Orchestra and the National Theatre for Children. She served as Enrollment and Program Manager at at Lutheran Summer Music (LMS): the nation’s foremost faith-based music academy for high school students (May 2016-September 2018). Since September 2018, she serves there as the Admissions and Program Director. Through her work at Lutheran Summer Music, she has had the privilege of seeing a generation of high school musicians go through this excellent program and continue to successful collegiate studies, careers, and vocations in music. Holding firmly to the belief that everyone has a voice that should be heard, Kristina enjoys meeting students wherever they are in their singing journey and helping build the confidence to grow as a whole person through the practice of singing. She has served as the voice teacher in residence at Harding High School in St. Paul, Minnesota.
