Mauro Peter (Tenor)

Born: 1987 - Lucerne, Switzerland

The Swiss tenor, Mauro Peter, received his musical training at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Fenna Kügel-Seifried, and in Helmut Deutsch's Lied class. In 2012, he was the winner of Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau, where he was awarded the 1st Prize and the Audience prize.

In 2012, Mauro Peter made his successful debut as a lieder recitalist at the Schubertiade in Hohenems and Schwarzenberg, performing Die Schöne Müllerin with Helmut Deutsch. Many recitals followed in the most distinguished concert halls and opera houses such as the KKL Lucerne, London’s Wigmore Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Musikverein Graz, the Teatro de la Zarzuela Madrid, the Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence, the Konzerthaus Bern, Berlin and Dortmund, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Philharmonie Cologne, the Opera Frankfurt and Zurich or the Salzburg Festival.

Equally successful on the concert platform Mauro Peter sang J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion (BWV 244) with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at Vienna’s Musikverein and with William Christie at the KKL Lucerne, Bruckner’s F Minor Mass with Marc Albrecht and L.v. Beethoven’s C Major Mass with Fabio Luisi. Further highlights were J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion (BWV 244) under the baton of Thomas Quasthoff at the Verbier Festival, Schmidt’s Das Buch mit Sieben Siegeln with Manfred Honeck at Vienna’s Musikverein and W.A. Mozart’s Requiem with Ivor Bolton in Salzburg. He has also worked with leading conductors such as Teodor Currentzis, Gustavo Dudamel, Iván Fischer, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Zubin Mehta, Cornelius Meister and Riccardo Minasi.

Since the 2013-2014 season, Mauro Peter has been a member of the Zürich Opera House, further he had his highly acclaimed debuts at the Opéra National de Paris, at the Bavarian State Opera Munich, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, at the Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, at the Komische Oper Berlin, at the Opéra de Lyon, at the Theater an der Wien, and since 2012 he has been regularly invited by the Salzburg Festival where in 2018 he appears as Tamino in a new production of W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.

In April 2015 the Wigmore Hall Edition released Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin, followed by a solo album with Schubert/Goethe Lieder in August 2015 (SONY Music). Fall 2016 brought a new solo album with Lieder by Robert Schumann again by SONY Music.

During the season 2018-2019 season, Mauro Peter will be back at the Opera Zürich where he appears in a ballet production of Schubert’s Winterreise as well as in W.A. Mozart's La Finta Giardinera. Further he will sing the title role of Weber’s Oberon at the Theater an der Wien. Recitals will bring him to the Vienna Konzerthaus, to the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, to the Prinzregententheater in Munich, to Prag and Zug, and to the Mozart Week in Salzburg.

On the concert platform Mauro Peter can be heard in George Frideric Handel's Messiah with the Zürcher Kammerorchester under Daniel Hope in Barcelona (Dercember 2018); in Antonio Vivaldi's Magnificat ossecensis RV 610 and W.A. Mozart's Messa in C maj. K 317 (Krönungsmesse) under Diego Fasolis in the Christmas Concert at the Teatro alla Scala in Milano (Dercember 2018); as Evangelist in J.S. Bach's St. Matthew’s Passion (BWV 244) under Trevor Pinnock in Ottawa (January 2019).
