Rebecca Murphy (Soprano)

Born: Northern Ireland

The Irish soprano, Rebecca Murphy, graduated from Queens University Belfast in 2015 with a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours), under the vocal tutelage of Debra Stuart. She is currently studying for a Master of Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, under the vocal tutelage of Wilma MacDougall. After receiving the Hamilton Harty Scholarship, she also studied with Daphne Evangelatos (Hochschule München). In 2016, she was a finalist in Northern Ireland Opera’s Festival of Voice Competition.

Currently, Rebecca Murphy is covering the role of Rose Maurrant in Street Scene at the RCS Alexander Gibson Opera School. She has also sung the roles of Dido in Dido and Aeneas, 1st Witch in Dido and Aeneas, Maria in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, and Soprano 1 (Cover) in Martin’s Le Vin Herbé. In Opera Scenes, she has sung Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, with upcoming roles including Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen and Blanche in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. Her Chorus work includes Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel (Scottish Opera) and George Frideric Handel's Theodora (Sestina/Irish Baroque Orchestra).

Rebecca Murphy sings with Irish Ensemble ‘Sestina’, directed by Mark Chambers. For their 2017-2018 season, she is an Exitex New Generation Young Artist, and gave a recital of Strauss songs in Belfast in February 2018. Other upcoming recitals includes a debut at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, Co. Waterford. She also currently sings with the prestigious Genesis Sixteen. Future ensemble work includes the Kellie Consort (John Butt).

Rebecca Murphy has appeared as a soloist with the Belfast Philharmonic Choir, Ulster Orchestra, Garleton Singers, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to name a few. Her concert performances have included Johannes Brahms' Requiem, J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243), John Rutter's Magnificat, L.v. Beethoven's Mass in C major, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, Stanford's Requiem, W.A. Mozart's Vespers, and G.F. Handel's Dixit Dominus.

Rebecca is kindly supported by The Cross Trust, The McGlashan Trust, The May Turtle Bursary, The Peter Nutting Trust, and The Kathleen Trust. She currently lives in Glasgow, Northern Ireland
