Mara Maria Möritz (Soprano)

Born: July 25, 1966 - Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany

The German soprano, Mara Maria Möritz, was born in Augsburg, where she received her first piano and voice lessons. In her youth she learned from Carmen Hanganu (teacher Diana Damrau). In her school days, she received many prizes and has performed as one of the "Engelstimmen" (angel voices) with Enrico de Paruta in concert halls and television studios. At the age of 15, she attended the Bavarian Singing Academy - a gifted education program. Her musical path took her directly to the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg (Nürnberg Music Conservatory), where she has been studying with Professor Susanne Kelling since 2016. She worked intensively on the Lieder genre with Holger Berndsen and Professor Marcelo Amaral. She also worked on language and technique with Sibylla Rubens during the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer, Robert Gambill and Marie Paule-Hallard. In the summer of 2018, she received a scholarship from the Accademia Europa di Firenze (European Academy of Florence, Italy). There, she had the opportunity to be immersed in the Italian language and culture for one month and had lessons at the Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini (Luigi Cherubini Muic Conservatory) with Mario de Lisi.

Mara Maria Möritz has been on stage since she was eight years old. At age ten, she performed Despina’s aria “Una donna a quindic’anni” (A Girl of Fifteen Years) as her very first solo. The young singer has grown up with in the classical music and opera world. She was a guest in the Gasteig and Künstlerhaus Munich, the Amberg Theater, the Schauspielhaus Nürnberg (Nürnberg Theater), the Heilig-Geistspital Nürnberg, the Golden Hall in Augsburg, the Augsburg Theater and numerous other cultural venues in Germany. Concert activities have also taken her to Venice and Florence, Italy, Luxembourg, Innsbruck (Austria),Prague (Czech Republic) and Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Mara Maria Möritz participated in the Brecht Festival Augsburg. During the Festival Alte Musik in Nürnberg she performed in George Frideric Handel’s Jephta as an angel. As a witch she conjured in the children’s theater Merle of the Statt.oper München. She sang her first title role under the musical direction of Alexandra Köhler and the ensemble VoiceConnexion as Rose in Der Rose Pilgerfahrt by Robert Schumann. In her operetta debut, the soprano sang as Ida in J. Strauss' Fledermaus“ during the Coburger Sommeroperette (Coburg Summer Operetta). In Paul Lincke’s operetta Frau Luna under the musical direction of Prof. G.J. Rumstadt and directed by Ulrich Proschka, she played Frau Luna on stage, who was also “wonderfully calculating as if overcome by feelings” (U. Proschka). In a world premiere of Macbeth (music: A. Mathewsen / libretto: A. Rausch) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of World War I, she took the role of showmaster and first witch. She has done her W.A. Mozart debut as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte in December 2018. She currently lives in Nuremberg, Germany.
