Markus Miesenberger (Tenor)

Born: Austria

The Austrian lyrical tenor, Markus Miesenberger, received his education as a singer in Vienna under Kammersänger Robert Holl, Sebastian Vittucci and Gertrude Schulz as well as in the subjects violin and Baroque viola in Salzburg, Linz and Vienna. Further singing studies led him among others to Norbert Ernst and Kai Wessel. He is the winner of the Franz Joseph Aumann Prize for new discoveries and innovative interpretation of Baroque music at Internationalen H.I.F. Biber Wettbewerb.

Performances as a concert, Lieder and opera singer took Markus Miesenberger throughout Austria, to important European music centers and also to Mexico. Apart from regular appearances at the Wiener Musikverein and at the Wiener Konzerthaus, he has been a guest at numerous festivals (Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes Mexico City, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, MA Festival Brügge, Styriarte, Carinthischer Sommer, Schubertiade Dürnstein, Brucknerfest Linz, Händel- Festspiele Halle, Musica Antiqua des Bayerischen Rundfunks in Nürnberg, Philharmonie Breslau). He performs under the direction of renowned conductors such as Pierre Andre Valade, Ralf Weikert, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Gunar Letzbor and Rubén Dubrovsky with ensembles such as Ars Antiqua Austria (Director: Gunar Letzbor), Bach Consort Wien (Director: Rubén Dubrovsky), Wiener Streichersolisten, Camerata Viennensis (Director: Rudolf Scholz), Wrocław Baroque Orchestra and Slovak Philharmonic.

On the opera stage, Markus Miesenberger is mainly to be found in roles of W.A. Mozart's operas, in Baroque operas and with plays of the 20th century or with contemporary music. Engagements took him to the Neue Oper Wien, Linz Landestheater, Stadttheater Bolzano and Tiroler Festspielen. At the Opernfestspielen Bad Hersfeld he embodied the role of Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte and at the Donaufestwochen in Strudengau the role of Gelon in Reinhard Keiser's Der geliebte Adonis. In 2016, he gave guest appearances at the Theater an der Wien in Wiener Kammeroper with three world premieres. Kross in the Opera Trilogy Hospital.

Various CD productions and numerous Broadcasts are also the focus of Markus Miesenberger's artistic work. In 2012, the label Challenge Classics released the recording "Pro Adventu", consisting of works by Gregor Werner and the Baroque ensemble Ars Antiqua Austria under the direction of Gunar Letzbor. In 2016 and 2017, the solo CD's "Kriegsgeschichten" and "Liebesabenteuer" were published as part of the musical-Turkish Eulenspiegel by Georg Daniel Speer with Ars Antiqua Austria, published by Pan Classics in co-production with BR Klassik. In January 2018, together with the Neue Wiener Hofkapelle, his latest aria CD titled "Arias for Silvio Garghetti" was released by Pan Classics.
