Christoph Metzger (Tenor)

Born: January 20, 1976 - Bolligen, Canton of Bern, Switzerland

The Swiss tenor, Christoph Metzger, obtained his teaching diploma with distinction in the class of Elisabeth Glauser at the Hochschule der Künste Bern, where he also earned the concert diploma with honors. He completed his singing studies with Christoph Prégardien at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Zürich and received further impulses from Werner Güra, Margreet Honig, Julia Hamari, and Siegfried Jerusalem. In 2002, he won a scholarship from the Kiefer-Hablitzel-Stiftung, and in the following two years, the study award of the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bundes.

Today Christoph Metzger performs mainly as a concert and Lied singer. In addition, from 2005 to 2007, he appeared at the Ope(r)n Air Arosa in leading roles in Haydn and W.A. Mozart operas. He appears with guitarist Matthias Kirchner in the duo kirchnermetzger (this year for the third time at the Murten Classics), which maintains a stylistically broad repertoire and in 2003 won the sponsorship prize of the Orpheus Konzerte Zürich.

Parallel to his singing studies, Christoph Metzger also studied piano with Tomasz Herbut, also in Bern, which he completed with a teaching diploma in February 2003. Moreover, he trained as a secondary school teacher in music. He teaches singing at the Konservatorium Bern and Kantonsschule Wohlen AG.

Throughout his studies Christoph Metzger was involved in conducting: in Bern he enjoyed lessons with Stefan Blunier and Dominique Roggen; in Zürich he was further educated by Marc Kissoczy. He also assisted Rudolf Rychard with the Orpheus Chor Bern. Since the end of 2006 he has been idirector of the Langnauer Orchester and the Konzertchor Langnau. He currently lives in Kirchlindach, Switzerland.
