Whitney Mather (Soprano)

Born: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

The Canadian soprano, Whitney Mather, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree with Honurs in in Music - Vocal Performance from the University of Saskatchewan (2008-2013); her Artist Diploma in Music Performance - Voice from The Glenn Gould School of the The Royal Conservatory of Music (2013-2015: ADP Voice Program); and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Toronto (August 2016-May 2018), studying with Monica Whicher. She was a finalist for the 2017-2018 Jim and Charlotte Norcop Prize in Song at the University of Toronto.

Award winning soprano Whitney Mather is active as a freelance musican self-employed opera singer since September 2010. She is recognized for her considerable poise and expressivity and continues to shine in both opera and art song repertoires. She also enjoys the challenge of working in new music and is thrilled to be a part of the indie opera scene in Toronto. Most recently, she spent the month of June 2015 in Los Angeles, California at Songfest in master-classes with Roger Vignoles, Margo Garrett, Alan Smith, John Musto, Martin Katz and Libby Larsen. In July 2015, she had the honour of being one of the vocal Fellows for the Toronto Summer Music Festival. In May 2016, she was cast in the role of Rosina in Saskatoon Opera in School’s production of The Barber of Seville and was announced in March as the 2016 winner of the Toronto Mozart Vocal Competition. In December 2016, she performed in Against the Grain’s Dora Award nominated Messiah and performed the roles of Queen of the Night and First Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in a tour to Stratford and PEI in the summer of 2016. She sang the role of Cupid in Opera Atelier’s spring 2017 production of Charpentier’s Medée. She also sang that season the role Marie in La fille du régiment. In December 2017 she could be seen in concert with the Toronto Classical Singers. In February 2018 she sang the role of Norina in Don Pasquale with Vera Causa Opera.

Whitney Mather has worked as Operations Assistant (September 2014-February 2016), Program Coordinator, Rebanks Family Fellowship (February 2016-Jul 2018), and Manager, Admissions and Student Services (July 2018-July 2021) at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music; Talent Acquisition Coordinator (July-November 2021) and Talent Acquisition Specialist (acquired by Salesforce) (November 2021-May 2022) at Traction on Demand in Toronto; Salesforce · Inbound Talent Specialist in Toronto (since June 2022). She currently lives in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
