Zbigniew Malak (Tenor)

Born: Poznan, Poland

The Polish tenor, Zbigniew Malak, began musical education by playing the piano and continued it by attending clarinet classes. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Studies (2009-2012) and his Master of Arts degree in Vocal and Acting Studies (2012-2014) from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland.

Zbigniew Malak is a freelance opera singer and concert soloist since January 2012. In 2014, he debuted at the Národní divadlo in Prague as Narraboth in Salome by R. Strauss, directed by Mariusz Treliński. In 2016-2017 season, he made his debut as Ismaele in Verdi’s Nabucco conducted by Warcisław Kunc. He also took part in the world premiere of Krzysztof Knittel’s Sąd ostateczny at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. In 2016, he appeared for the first time on the stage of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, as the Shepherd and Young Sailor in Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde directed by Mariusz Treliński and conducted by Stefan Soltesz. In 2017-2018 season, he made his debut as Tamino in W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera and as Nadir in Georges Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles in Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. He started the 2018-2019 aseason with his debut as Il Conte d’Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia directed by Paweł Szkotak at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. He performed for the first time on the stage of the Polish Royal Opera, as Shepherd in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. In Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera he sang part of A Novice in Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd directed by Annilese Miskimmon and conducted by Michał Klauza. In the 2019-2020 season, he performed as Damazy in Moniuszko’s Haunted Manor, Glock in Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel and Góral in Moniuszko’s Halka directed by Mariusz Treliński at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.

Zbigniew Malak’s opera repertoire includes such parts as Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata, Ismaele in Verdi's Nabucco, Lensky in Tschaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Nadir in Georges Bizet's Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Narraboth in R. Strauss' Salome, Shepherd and Young Sailor in Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, Flute in B. Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, A Novice in B. Britten's Billy Budd. His repertoire also includes oratorios.

Zbigniew Malak has performed W.A. Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Magnificat in D major (BWV 243) and the Oster-Oratorium (BWV 249) by J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah and The Creation by Haydn. He has performed at the Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera, Národní Divadlo in Prague, Warsaw Chamber Opera, Polish Royal Opera, Baltic Opera in Gdańsk chlosstheater Rheinsberg, Warmian-Masurian Philharmonic, Subcarpathian Philharmonic, Poznań Philharmonic and Kalisz Philharmonic. He currently lives in Kraków, Poland.
