Iwona Lubowicz (Soprano)

Born: Poland

The Polish soprano, Iwona Lubowicz, is a graduate of the State Secondary Music School in Rzeszów, piano and solo vocal class, and the Vocal and Acting Faculty of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, Professor Christian Elssner’s class. She received a scholarship from the Katholischer Akademischer Ausländer Dienst and in 2005 completed a post-graduate course in the Hochschule für Musik Köln, in the period chamber music class led by Professor Konrad Junghänel, and in 2006 another post-graduate course - Konzertexamen, solo vocal class under Professor Barbara Schlick. She perfected her skills during many music interpretation courses (Cracow, Wrocław, Duszniki-Zdrój, Händel-Akademie in Karlsruhe).

In 2001, Iwona Lubowicz toured as a soloist of the European Baroque Academy d’Ambronay in France, under the tutelage of Christophe Rousset. She gave concerts with many period music ensembles, e.g. Cantus Cölln, Il Tempo, Cappella Augustana, Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, Capella Cracoviensis, Collegio di Musica Sacra. The artist performed at many festivals: the Festival d’Ambronay, the Festival des Cathédrales de Picardie (France), the Festival de Música Antiga de Tiana (Spain), the Festival Concentus Moraviae (Czechia), the Early Music Festival (Warsaw), the Wratislavia Cantans, the Early Music Festival in Stary Sącz, the Musica Antica a Magnano (Italy), the Merano Festival (Italy), the Internationale Stockholm Early Music (Sweden), the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci, the Internationale Händel Festspiele (Göttingen), the Barockfest Münster (Münster), the Beethovenfest (Bonn), the Ekhof-Festival (Gotha, Germany).

Iwona Lubowicz participated in five international transmissions of the European Radio Union (2002, 2005, 2009, 2012, 2013). In 2008, she led the vocal class as part of the International Summer Academy of Early Music in Warsaw. She is one of the members of the alla polacca early music ensemble seated in Köln, with which she won the following contests as a soloist: Concerto Barocco 2004 in Wuppertal, Alte-Musik-Treff 2004 in Berlin, and Gothaer Reihe Historische Musik 2004/2005 in (Göttingen). With the alla polacca she recorded two CD's for ARS Produktion, one with Polish Baroque music, and one with the music at the castle in Hanover. Her artistic output includes also other CD's, such as the "Jasnogórska Muzyka na Boże Narodzenie" recorded with the early music ensemble Floripari from the Wawel Royal Castle, and a 5-CD set Audite et admiramini with the music of Mielczewski and Pękiel, published by the Capella Cracoviensis ensemble.

Apart from her early music work, between 2005 and 2007 Iwona Lubowicz was a soloist at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. She has many opera parts in her repertoire (e.g. H. Berlioz: Les Troyens – Ascagne, Georges Bizet: Carmen – Frasquita, J. Haydn: Il Mondo della Luna – Clarice, W.A. Mozart: La finta giardiniera – Marchesa Violante, Le Nozze di Figaro – Susanna, Die Entführung aus dem Serail – Blonde, Apollo et Hyacinthus – Melia, G. Puccini: La bohème – Musetta, H. Purcell: Dido and Aeneas – Belinda, G. Rossini: L’italiana in Algeri – Elvira, C. M. von Weber: Der Freischütz – Ännchen), which she performed in Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Taiwan, and in Poland. She made guest performances at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, the Warsaw Camerata Orchestra, and the opera house in Münster. She was a soloist of the Warsaw Chamber Opera for 10 years. She is a soloist at the Polish Royal Opera.
