Christoph Liebold (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

The German bass-baritone, Christoph Liebold, came to music at the age of 5 through his parents (mother a pianist, father an opera singer). From 1991 to 1999 he was a member of the Thomanerchor Leipzig and a student at the Thomas-Gymnasiums until he graduated from high school. Even in his youth he was lucky enough to be able to gain extraordinary musical experiences, such as a tour of the USA with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Kurt Masur. He studied in Detmold with Helmut Kretschmar and at Musikhochschule Lübeck (Class of 2010) with F.J. Einhaus and Henner Leyhe.

Christoph Liebold is now a sought-after concert singer at home and abroad. Highlights of his solo work include the Bachfest Leipzig, Lucerne Musikfestival, Händelfestpiele Göttingen, Bayreuther Festspiele, Eutiner Festspiele and a concert performance of Arnold Schoenberg's Moses und Aaron at the opening cycle of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. He worked with personalities such as Pierre Boulez, Laurence Cummings, Christian Thielemann, Trevor Pinnock and Ingo Metzmacher, among others. He has repeatedly appeared as a soloist with the Norddeutschen Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock and is also regularly supervised as a soloist by the Norddeutschen Rundfunk Chor, of which he has been a permanent member of the ensemble since autumn 2009. He currently lives in Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein.
