Malcolm Leitch (Baritone)

Born: February 20, 1980 - Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, England

The English-born baritone, Malcolm Leitch, began his career, at Chichester Cathedral (UK) as a boy chorister. He obtained his Teaching Diploma from University of Southampton (1999-2000); and his Diploma in Management CMI (Chartered Management Institute) in Business Administration and Management, General from Southampton City College (2004-2005). Since then he has sung for eight years as Bass Lay Clerk at Christ Church Cathedral, New Zealand (September 2007-August 2015), and has recently returned to New Zealand after an extended period singing in the UK, primarily based at Chelmsford Cathedral, Essex as Bass Lay Clerk (September 2015-2017). During this time he also sang at the Cathedrals of St Paul's (London), Canterbury, York Minster, Ely, Christ Church (Oxford), Worcester, Winchester and Chichester, and at the Cambridge Colleges of Kings and St John's.

Malcolm Leitch is a freelance concert soloist since December Present. As a well-known and in-demand concert soloist in the London and East Anglia regions, he performed repertoire including George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Orff's Carmina Burana, Edward Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, Gabriel Fauré and W.A. Mozart's Requiems, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) and Duke Ellington's Sacred Music. In addition to being the principal bass soloist at Chelmsford Cathedral, he also performed regular recitals around the region, including song cycles, cantatas and lieder by composers such as Sergei Rachmaninov, Schubert, J.S. Bach, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Purcell and Benjamin Britten. He has performed on television and radio, and has featured on various CD recordings, in both the UK and New Zealand.

Now based in Christchurch, New Zealand, Malcolm Leitch has performed with various regional groups around the country since his return, across the classical repertoire and in opera, including G.F. Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors. He has a variety of up-coming engagements around New Zealand across the major centres in opera and as concert soloist.

Malcolm Leitch has also worked as Internal Recruiter at Compass Group in Christchurch (September 2007-January 2008); Co-ordinator at Academy New Zealand in in Christchurch (February 2008-July 2011); Senior Consultant at Stellar Recruitment in Christchurch (July 2011-December 2013); Building Surveyor at Prebendal Projects in Christchurch (January 2014-August 2015). He currently lives in Lyttelton, New Zealand.
