Julia Klein (Soprano)

Born: Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, Germamy

The German soprano, Julia Klein (since 2017: Julia Da Rio), received her first singing lessons at the age of 15. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik Köln with Professor Klesie Kelly-Moog and completed her studies in October 2010 with a concert exam. She attended master-classes with Kammersängerin Edda Moser, Professor Christoph Prégardien, Professor Peter Ziethen, Professor Michael Hampe and maintains an intensive work with Professor Karl-Josef Görgen. Since 2007, she is a scholarship holder of the Kölner Richard Wagner-Verbandes. In 2008, she won the scholarship of the Kölnischen Rückversicherung and was a laureate of the Bergheimer Sängerpreises. She is the winner of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg 2011.

In 2009, Julia Klein sang the role of Gretel at the Wernigeröder Schlossfestspielen in Engelbert Humperdinck's opera Hänsel und Gretel. In the same year she appeared in the opera La Boheme as Musetta, which was performed at the E.T.A. Hoffmann Theater Bamberg. At the Städtische Bühnen Münster she performed as Lucinde in Charles Gounod's Der Arzt wider Willen, as Bacchis in Die schöne Helena by Offenbach and as the first flower girl in Parsifal by Wagner. In the 2011-2012 season, she was heard at the Staatstheater Braunschweig as Christel in Der Vogelhändler and at the Wuppertaler Bühnen as Serpetta in W.A. Mozart's La finta Giardiniera and as Hahn/Eichelhäher (cock / jay) in Das wiese Vüleinlein by Janacek.

Julia Klein is a permanent member of the ensemble at the Landestheater Coburg. She has appeared there, among others, in the roles of Valencienne in Die Lustige Witwe, Betty Schaefer in Sunset Boulevard, Princess in Die Arabische Prinzessin, Arsena in Der Zigeunerbaron, Jaqueline in Me and My Girl, Margiana in Der Barbier von Bagdad, Christel in Der Vogelhändler and Euridice in Orpheo ed Euridice. In 2016-2017 season, she starred as Marzelline in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio, Gretel in E. Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel, Flower Girl in Parsifal and as Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. In 2017-2018 season, she can be heard again as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, as well as Clorinde in La Cenerentola, Mi in Land des Lächelns and First Wood Elf in Rusalka. She currently lives in Coburg, Germany. She married Lorenzo Da Rio in 2017.
