Sammy Huh (Tenor, Choral Conductor)

Born: Ridgefield, New Jersey, USA

The Korean-American, tenor, choral conductor and voice teacher, Sammy Huh, received his Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School (2013); and Master of Music with the University of Maryland-Opera Studio (August 2013-May 2015). He received his apprenticeship training at young artist programs such as Chautauqua Opera Company, Aspen Opera Theatre Center, and Manhattan Summer Voice Festival. He is the recipient of awards from the Enrico Caruso Memorial Scholarship, National Society of Arts and Letters, Young Singers Foundation and the Lucrezia Bori Grant. He has sung in master-classes with Daniel Ferro, Malcolm Martineau, Mignon Dunn, Mark Padmore, and Anne Manson.

Sammy Huh has made operatic and concert appearances with companies nationwide. Institutions include Chautauqua Opera Company, Aspen Opera Theatre Center, Opera Camerata of Washington, The In-Series Opera, The Virginia Consort, Maryland Opera Studio, Washington Opera Society, Juilliard Opera, Central Maryland Chorale and President's Residence at University of Maryland. He has presented recitals at venues such as Lincoln Center - Alice Tully Hall, Washington College, Arts Club of Washington, Embassy of South Korea, The Mansion at Strathmore and Smithsonian American Art Museum - Renwick Gallery. He has received praise for his “delectable top notes” (DC Metro Theatre Arts) and a voice described as “powerful . . . conjuring up an extraordinarily delicate sweetness” (Communities Digital News).

As an ensemble artist, Sammy Huh sings with the Washington National Opera at Kennedy Center, Washington Concert Opera and is a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA). The Metropolitan Opera and Juilliard Opera's co-production of Gluck's Armide.

A dedicated educator, Sammy Huh he is Voice Professor and Director of Opera Workshop at University of Maryland - Baltimore County and maintains an active private studio. Beginning August 2018, he began his appointment as Director of Choral Activities at Largo High School in Prince George County Public Schools. He currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland and based in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
