Michael Hudlin (Choral Conductor, Baritone)

Born: Trinidad and Tobago

The Trinidad and Tobago-born choral conductor, educator and baritone, Michael Hudlin, received a Certificate in Music from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine (UWI) in Trinidad and Tobago (September 2014- July 2016), where he was also awarded the Suraj Boodram Prize for Best Music Certificate Student. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh (August 2017-May 2019). He gained there more experience through his engagement in piano studies with Dr. Karen Becker and vocal and choral conducting with Professor Jo Ellen Miano. He was also employed there as Administrative Assistant (Oct 2017-May 2019). He obtained his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2019-2021). He was employed there as Department Assistant (August 2019-May 2020).

Michael Hudlin is a young man with exceptional potential. During his time in Trinidad and Tobago, he taught at both the primary (elementary) and secondary (high school) school levels, including Athens School of Education in El Dorado, Tunapuna-Piarco (since September 2021). He served as the organist at several churches including Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C Church (June 2015-October 2022), St. Andrew Kaggwa R.C. Church, and All Saint's Anglican Church in Port of Spain (since October 2022); and as Choir Director at St. Joseph's Convent, San Fernando (April 2022-April 2023). He also assumed the role of Musical Director for productions held by the local theatre company Chandelier Productions. He was especially prolific in their production entitled "A Breath of Fresh Air" where he premiered many of his compositions and arrangements.

Michael Hudlin has performed as the baritone soloist for Schubert’s Mass in G with the UWI Arts Chorale led by Mr. Jessel Murray in conjunction with the UWI Arts Steel Orchestra. He also sang as part of the ensemble for W.A. Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor, J.S. Bach’s Magnificat in D major BWV 243, and George Frideric Handel's Messiah.

Over the years, Michael Hudlin has received many accolades for his musical accomplishments, including First Place in Music in the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC). He competed in the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival where he won several awards, including championship trophies for Boys' Vocal Solo 16-19, Bass Solo and Mixed Duet, and the Adjudicators' Awards for “Best Composition” and “Most Improved.” At SUNY Plattsburgh, he was awarded the Louise H. Heisler Music Scholarship through the Plattsburgh College Foundation and the prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music from the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Michael Hudlin participated in SUNY Plattsburgh’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone and performed as Horton in the Adirondack Lakes Centre for the Art’s production of Seussical. He has sung as the baritone soloist for J.S. Bach Cantata BWV 106 with the SUNY’s Concert Choir - directed by Professor Jo Ellen Miano - and for W.A. Mozart’s Missa Brevis in G (K49) with Champlain Valley Voices - directed by Timothy Morningstar. and

Michael Hudlin served as assistant conductor of Concert Choir, the Vice President of Club International and he assisted the College Theatre Association as their musical director. In October, 2018, he directed their Musical Revue, and in April 2019 he directed and accompanied Sondheim’s Company from the piano. He participated as a conductor in Eastman School of Music: Bach Cantata Series (BWV 79). He serves as Adjunct Lecturer at University of the West Indies, St. Augustine (since September 2022).
