Mark Hosseini (Baritone)

Born: Chicago, Illinois, USA

The American baritone, Mark Hosseini, graduated in 2016 in Vocal Performance from the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Michigan. During his studies there, he appeared with Oakland University Opera numerous times, portraying the roles of Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, Seneca in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and Amantio di Nicolao in Gianni Schicchi. Upon his graduation, he was given the Music, Theatre, and Dance Department award for Outstanding Student in Voice Performance. He was also a winner of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2015.

Since 2016, Mark Hosseini is working towards his Master’s Degree in Voice Performance & Literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York under the instruction of Dr. Jonathan Retzlaff (expected graduation in 2018). Recently, he was seen as Pandolfe in Eastman Opera Theatre’s production of Massenet’s Cendrillon. As a concert soloist, he recently sang as a soloist for performances of J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor (BWV 232), J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Haydn’s Theresienmesse, and Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, with various choirs and orchestras at the Eastman School of Music. He also recently completed a performance singing the bass solos in J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) with the Malaysia Bach Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is also Bass Section Leader at St Anne Church in Rochester, New York.

Mark Hosseini was recently a finalist in the Edward M. Murray Competition of Voice, hosted by Opera Ithaca. He has also received four first place awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition (Michigan Chapter), as well as a second place award from the Elizabeth Gardner Voice Competition in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
