Theresa Holzhauser (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: 1986 - Bobingen, Bavaria, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Theresa Holzhauser, began her vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in 2006. Since 2008 she also attended the Lied class of Helmut Deutsch and the French song class with Celine Dutilly. She is a prize-winner of the Jugend musiziert; she received the award at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin, is recipient of the Frankfurt Mendelssohn Prize, and in 2010 won First Prize at the Schloss Laubach International Opera Workshop. She participated in the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project in 2011. She is currently being supervised by Kammersängerin Marga Schiml.

Theresa Holzhauser's studies are accompanied by numerous performances in opera and concert. She sang Juliet in Benjamin Britten's The Little Sweep as well as the Tamiri in W.A. Mozart's Il re pastore at Stadttheater Augsburg, the Second Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in a production of the Münchener Hochschule as well as Balki in Gluck's Die Pilger von Mekka and the Sorceress in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in the productions of the Bayerischen Theaterakademie. For the re-opening of the Reaktorhalle München, she appeared in Fausts Träume by Jan Müller Wieland and György Ligeti and was also seen there as Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. With the Münchner Rundfunkorchester she sang the Gwendolyne in Lehar's Fürstenkind und die Beate in Lortzings Regina. At the Teatro dell 'Opera di Roma she made her debut as a second maid in Strauss' Elektra.

Theresa Holzhauser's performances in the 2011-2012 season included u.a. the title role in Johann Adolf Hasse's Didone abbandonata with the Neue Hofkapelle München under Michael Hofstetter at the Opéra Royal in Versailles. She began the 2012-2013 season with a residency contract at the Theater St. Gallen, where she was heard as Maddalena in Rigoletto, Afra in La Wally and 2nd Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, among others. In addition to her opera engagements, the she sang J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), W.A. Mozart's Mass in C minor, and Johannes Brahms's Altrhapsodie in Munich.

In 2013, Theresa Holzhauser made her debut at the Salzburg Easter Festival as a Flower Maiden in Wagner’s Parsifal under the baton of Christian Thielemann. In the 2013-2014 season, She was Flower Maiden in Parsifal at the Beijing Festival. She then sang at the Theater St. Gallen in the new production of Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen. From the 2014-2015 season onwards, she has been a permanent member of the ensemble. In concert she sang with Christopher Hogwood and the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover in Pisa, with W.A. Mozart's Requiem and J.S. Bach Concerts in Munich, as well as with L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Felix Mendelssohn's Walpurgisnacht at the Munich Herkulessaal.

Theresa Holzhauser's concert repertoire includes numerous J.S. Bach cantatas Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), the Weihnachts-Oratorium, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Mass in C minor, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, F. Mendelssohn's Elias, Paulus und Erste Walpurgisnacht, and Johannes Brahms's Altrhapsodie.
