Kelly Holst (Soprano)

Born: March 1978 - Center Junction, Iowa, USA

The American lyric coloratura soprano and voice teacher, Kelly Holst, is a graduate of Luther College (2000), Indiana University, and the University of Michigan. She has received a number of regional and national awards, including an Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Regional Auditions.

Kelly Holst enjoys an active career as an opera, oratorio, and concert singer. She has performed over a dozen operatic roles including Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, the Queen of the Night in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Susanna / Barbarina in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, and Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni. Her concert repertoire includes George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232, Johannes-Passion BWV 245 and Magnificat in D major BWV 243, Haydn’s Creation, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, and Glière’s Concerto for Coloratura Soprano and Orchestra. She has appeared with the Michigan Opera Theatre, Handel and Haydn Society of Boston, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Louisiana Opera, Arbor Opera Theater, Canterbury Voices, Tactus Ensemble, Bloomington Early Music Festival and Amherst Early Music Festival. In Oklahoma City, she performed in the world premieres of Jarod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate's Misha’ Sipokni’ with Canterbury Voices and Eric Lindsay’s installation opera Ascription at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. She has appeared in recital in Massachusetts, the Dominican Republic, New York, Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2008 with the University of Michigan composition department performing the music of Bright Sheng.

A passionate voice teacher, Kelly Holst joined the faculty of the prestigious Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University in August 2012. She received 3rd place at the 2008 National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards competition. She is married to conductor Warren Puffer Jones and is the proud mother of their toddler Isaac. She currently lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
