Michael Havlicek (Baritone)

Born: Vienna, Austria

The Austrian baritone, Michael C. Havlicek, studied at the Konservatorium Wien, starting in 2002, and graduated in 2004, qualifying with the role of Don Giovanni. In addition to his lessons with Wicus Slabbert, Edith Lienbacher, and since 2008 with Professor Gerhard Kahry, he has attended master classes with F. Grundheber and Walter Berry.

In 2004, Michael Havlicek was engaged by the St. Pölten Stadttheater as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte; he also had great success playing the same role in Tokyo in the summer of 2005. Lieder recitals and concerts took him to South Africa, Argentina, Germany, and the USA. In December 2005 he made his debut as Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and in January 2007 he made his debut as Boni in The Csardas Princess. At the Lockenhaus Festival in 2007, he sang the Count in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. In 2008 he appeared in Manfred Waba's production of Max and Moritz in his first appearance at the St. Margarethen Festival. At the 2009 Steyr music festival he was heard as Morales in Georges Bizet's Carmen. In 2010 he sang Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at the summer festival in St. Margarethen, and in autumn 2010 he returned to the Baden stage with Die Schöne Wassilissa.

In April 2011, Michael Havlicek made his successful debut at the Vienna Volksoper as Gustl in The Land of Smiles, and he also sang his first Papageno there with great success in September 2011. In summer 2011 he was again Boni at the Vienna Operetta Summer. That year ended with his debut as Papageno at the Vienna Volksoper and the leading role in Hans Werner Henze's Polliccino at the Baden Stage. In summer 2012 he made his debut in Der Vogelhändler in Bad Ischl. In the 2012-2013 season, he also presented his interpretation of Boni at the Vienna Volksoper.

After his debut as Pappacoda in the premiere of A Night in Venice at the Vienna Volksoper in 2014, Michael Havlicek made his debut in Die Zauberflöte at the Opera Bastille in Paris under the baton of Philippe Jordan. In 2015 he sang in the new production of Parisian Life at the Vienna Volksoper and then returned to the Opera Bastille! In summer 2015 he made a successful guest appearance at the Savonlinna Festival with the Vienna Volksoper, and in 2016 he began his new production of Der Kongress tanzt at the Volksoper with a performance that was praised by the press and the public. In May 2016, he made a very successful guest appearance in Tokyo as Boni in Die Csardasfürstin. New roles 2017: Toni in The Circus Princess, Masetto in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Josef in Wiener Blut.
