Carolina Gauna (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Argentina

The Argentinean mezzo-soprano, Carolina Gauna, obtained a degree in classical guitar in 1988 while pursuing studies in singing and musicology. In 1993, she received a scholarship from the Argentinian government that allowed her to come to Geneva to perform a specialization in Baroque singing at the Early Music Center of Geneva. She trained with Béatrice Cramoix, Guillemette Laurens and Heidi Raymond. She obtained her Master of Arts degree in Geneva with a focus on vocal pedagogy.

As a soloist, Carolina Gauna has participated in numerous productions with, among others the Ensemble Elyma, Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne (Director: Michel Corboz), Ensemble 415 (Director: Chiara Banchini), Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Orchestre de Pays de Savoie and ensemble A Sei Voci. She also performs in recital with piano, pianoforte or guitar. At the Opera, she is Fedra in Benedetto Marcello's Arianna in Basel, Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in Lausanne and Melissa in L'isola d'Alcina by Caccini in Geneva. She recorded in the series "Les chemins du baroque" on K617 label with the Ensemble Elyma under the direction of Gabriel Garrido and with A Sei Voci, the Requiem of Cazzati.

Carolina Gauna teaches singing and engages in the use of the arts in community projects. She currentlty lives in Geneva, Switzerland.
