The Japanese mezzo-soprano, Naoko Fuse, studied at Kyoritsu Women's junior high school (graduation); Tokyo University of the Arts of Music (vocal graduated). She won the Acanthus Music Awards and Dokoe Association Award upon graduation, and appeared in the Association rookie concert. She continued her studies at the University Graduate School of Music Graduate School (Graduate Degree). She studied singing with Okuni Kazuko, Tatara Michio, and Chieko Teratani.
In the opera Naoko Fuse has appeared as Charlotte in Massenet's Werther, Mercedes in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Amore in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea, Marika in Delibes' Lakme, Berushi in Giordano's Andrea Chenier, Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des carmelites. In addition, she served as a soloist in such works as Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245), George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Mass in Time of War, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Credo-Mass, L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Missa solemnis, Felix Mendelssohn's St. Paul, Robert Schumann's Vom Pagen und der Königstochter, Verdi's Requiem, Dvorak's Stabat Mater, Gabriel Fauré's Messe basse, and John Rutter's Gloria. She has collaborated with prominent conductors such as Hanns-Martin Schneidt, Shunsaku Tsutsumi, Koizumi Hiroshi, Yuasa Takuo, Numajiri RyuNori, Junichi Hirokami. As the winner (1st prize) of the German Lieder Competition, she sang in the rookie concert Wagner's Wesendonck-Lieder with the Tokyo Universal Orchestra conducted by Matsuoka.
Naoko Fuse is member of the Bach Collegium Japan (Director: Masaaki Suzuki), and performed with them as a sdoloist in 2012 Felix Mendelssohn's St. Paul.
Currently, in addition to her activities as a singer, Naoko Fuse is also involved in voice training and guidance of multiple choirs, students and the general public. She is also a part-time lecturer at Tokyo Seitoku University. |
