Harrah Friedlander (Soprano)

Born: Mobile, Alabama, USA

The American soprano, Harrah Friedlander, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and Opera Performance Summa cum laude and an ad-hoc degree in Theatre Studies (2008-2013), and her Master of Music degree in in Voice and Opera Performance (2013-2015), both from Northwestern University. She appeared there appeared as Amy in Little Women, Emmie Spashett in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, and Elle in a production of La voix humaine, which she produced and directed. She was awarded the Dr. Gerald L. Smith Scholarship for scholastic and musical achievements

Since July 2015, Harrah Friedlander is Freelance Soprano, Director, and Teacher based in Chicago. She has premiered several works by contemporary composers, including Jivin Misra, Luis F. Amaya, Michal Novotny, and Conner VanderBeek, and recently Thunder, Perfect Mind by Christopher Preissing. Currently (since 2016), she is the Assistant Artistic Director of the new music coalition, NONop, which searches for new and exciting multimedia performances practices. She is also a performing member of Opera on Tap and the early music group, Marion Consort. She has directed and developed various productions both at Northwestern and beyond, including Menotti’s Old Maid and the Thief, Weill and Brecht’s Mahagonny Songspiel, Donizetti’s Rita, and several recitals celebrating the works of female composers. She served as the Assistant Director for the Northwestern Opera Production of Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking and directed several productions with Northwestern’s inaugural student opera company Chamber Opera Initiative. She will Assistant Direct Haymarket Opera’s fall production of Ariane et Bachus.

Beyond Chicago, Harrah Friedlander performed J.S. Bach’s charming Coffee Cantata (BWV 211) at the Aspen Music Festival under the direction of Harry Bicket, at the OperaNEO festival in San Diego, and with Rhode Island’s Narrangasset Bay Symphony.

Harrah Friedlander is Private Voice Teacher in her own studio Musika Lessons (since 2013); Voice and Piano Instructor at Company NameFlatts & Sharpe Music Co. (since October 2018).
