Marine Fribourg (Mezzo-soprano, Choral Conductor)

Born: Dieppe, France.

The French mezzo-soprano anmd choral conductor, Marine Fribourg, holds two Bachelor Degrees from Conservatoire de Paris XIII Maurice Ravel in music theory and choral conducting (2004-2008), where she studied with Claire Marchand, Frieder Bernius, Roland Hayrabédian, Georg Grun and Pierre Cao, and a Master’s degree from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (2008-2013), where she studied singing with Sasja Hunnego and Barbara Pearson and specialized in early music with Jill Feldman, Michael Chance and Peter Kooy (Kooij).

Marine Fribourg is an accomplished young singer of opera, oratorio, and chamber music and a passionate instigator of independent musical projects. Recent stage appearances include Angelina in Cenerentola by Rossini in June 2016 (coached by Teresa Berganza) the Alto in Kopernikus by Claude Vivier with the Dutch National Opera’s Talent Development Programme in April 2014, Charpentier's La Troupe d’Orphée with the ensemble Vox Luminis and Opera2Day in May, and Cherubini's Médée (cover Néris) in November 2013 and October 2014 with Opera2Day.

As a concert soloist, Marine Fribourg has recently performed J.S. Bach's Cantatas with the Orchestre d’Auvergne (Roberto Forés Veses, Festival Bach-en-Combrailles), George Frideric Handel's Messiah (Paul Valk, Pieterskerk Leiden), and Descriptions of the moon by Nathan Heidelberger (ensemble Oerknal!). The coming season will include the solo alto parts in J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) (Le Concert Etranger, Festival d’Ambronay) and in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) (Nederlandse Bachvereniging).

Marine Fribourg has performed in France - Festival Bach-en-Combrailles (Pontaumur), Rencontres Baroques Rémoises (Reims), Le festival de l’Académie Bach (Arques-la-Bataille), Festival l’Hiver musical de Saint Leu-la-Forêt - in the Netherlands - Festival Classique (The Hague), Fringe Oude muziek Festival (Utrecht), Stichting Musica Antiqua da Camera (The Hague), Anton Philipszaal (The Hague), Koninklijke Schouwburg (The Hague), Rotterdamse Operadagen (Rotterdam), Dutch National Opera (Amsterdam) - in the USA - MIT (Boston), Columbia University (New York) - and in Germany.

Chamber music is a particular passion, in duet with the pianist Flore Merlin and theorbo and lute player Javier Ovejero, and in soloists ensembles such as Le Concert Etranger, Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), Solistes XXI. She is a founding member (2007) of the vocal quartet Damask Ensemble, together with Katharine Dain (soprano), Scott Mello (tenor) and Drew Santini (baritone). Herself a gambist, Marine Fribourg often accompanies herself while singing, in the appropriate repertoire.

Marine Fribourg is also busy as a choral conductor; she is currently artistic director and conductor of the semi-professional vocal ensemble Bergamasque in Paris (a project she has nurtured since its creation in 2007). She gives regular master classes in France and in the Netherlands for choral conductors, choral singers, and vocal groups, as a vocal coach and conducting instructor. She currently lives in Paris, France.
