Louis Frémaux (Conductor)

Died: March 20, 2017 - Blois, France

The French conductor, Louis Frémaux, attended the Valenciennes Conservatory, but his education was interrupted by World War II.. He served in the Resistance during the Nazi occupation. After the war, he studied conducting at the Paris Conservatory with Fourestier, graduating in 1952 with the premier prix.

From 1956 to 1965 Louis Frémaux was chief conductor of the Orchestre National de Monte Carlo (Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo), and from 1968 to 1971 Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique Rhone-Alpes in Lyons. From 1969 to 1978 he was Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symhony Orchestra. From 1979 to 1982 he was chief conductor of the Sydney (Australia) Symphony Orchestra.
