The Swiss soprano and music teacher, Ingrid Frauchiger, studied with the well-known soprano Maria Stader in Zürich; from 1957 to 1963 at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg with Margarete von Winterfeld; at the same time studying piano; later in Geneva with Ursula Buckel.
Ingrid Frauchiger entered a successful concert career in her native Switzerland, but also on an international level. She gave concerts and recitals in Zürich and Basel, Berne, Geneva, Lucerne, Lugano, St Gallen and Biel; in Germany (Berlin, Frankfurt a.M., Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Baden, Darmstadt); in Strasbourg and Colmar; in Madrid and Toledo; in Milan and Cagliari; in Vienna, Copenhagen and Zagreb; at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, at the New Musical Festival in Fresno (USA) and at the Tibor Varga Festival in Sion (Switzerland). She took on solo roles in oratorios and other vocal works, especially in works by contemporary composers. In her Lieder recitals she performed the German, but above all the French art song, and also liked to sing contemporary Lieder here. She also became known through radio broadcasts in Switzerland and Germany, Austria, Italy and France.
From 1964 Ingrid Frauchiger worked as a teacher at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Berne, to whose director Urs Frauchiger she was married. She gave guest courses in Gstaad and at the University of California in Santa Barbara. Among her pupils: Rozinek Arabelle (soprano), Iris Eggler (Soprano), Lislot Frei (Soprano), Noe Ito Fröscher (Choral Conductor), Christine Guy (Choral Conductor), Franziska Hegi (Soprano), Annelise Kohler, Judith Lüpold (Mezzo-soprano, Contralto), Arabelle Rozinek (Soprano), Katharina Spielmann (Soprano).
