Silke Fraikin (Soprano)

Born: Weißenfels, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

The German soprano and composer, Silke Fraikin, was born in Weißenfels and raised in Dresden. She studied composition and piano at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden.

Silke Fraikin created a number of chamber music and vocal works as well as commissioned compositions, among others. for the Dresdner Zentrum für zeitgenössische Musik, the EXPO 2000 Hannover and the jubilee concert of the Dresdner Kammerchor, which were premiered by ensembles such as UnitedBerlin, Musica-Viva-Ensemble Dresden, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Sinfonietta Dresden and Dresdner Kammerchor, including Grazioso 222 – Quod libet für Kammerorchester at the conclusion of the Dresden concert series"Spannungen" in 2008, the organ work Sottovento for the re-inauguration of the Great Rieger organ in Ratzeburg Cathedral in 2013, and Nachtgesänge for the 30 Years Anniversary of Dresdner Kammerchor in 2016. Since 1991, she directs the Komponistenklasse Dresden, where composing children and adolescents are supported.

Silke Fraikin sang as a founding member for over 20 years in the Dresdner Kammerchor (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann) and was associated with the renowned ensemble as a project manager, initiated numerous choral projects with premieres and premieres and directed the Internationalen Kompositionswettbewerb (International Composition Competition) of the Dresdner Kammerchor on the occasion of the double anniversary of the Dresdner Musikhochschule and the City of Dresden in 2006.

Since 2007, Silke Fraikin works as a freelance composer, composition pedagogue and project manager. At the 82nd Neue Bachgesellschaft: Bachfest 2007 in Freiberg, she co-founded the Bachfest composition competition for children and young people (patronage: Sofia Gubaidulina) as the production manager together with the artistic director Christian Skobowsky. In 2015, the Komponistenklasse Dresden, which she directed, was awarded the Sächsischen Initiativpreis für Kunst und Kultur. From 2014 to 2016, she was appointed to the Fachbeirat Darstellende Kunst und Musik der Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen (advisory board for performing arts and music of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony).
