Amanda Flodin (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Stockholm, Sweden

The Swedish mezzo-soprano, Amanda Flodin, studied at the Academy of Music&Drama in Göteborg (Class of 2008). During her studies she started to sing with distinguished groups like Göteborg Baroque and the independent Baroque opera society Utomjordiska, which has been an invaluable experience for her artistic development!

Immediately after her final exams, Amanda Flodin got a wonderful contract in a vocal quartet at the Vara Concert Hall where she got the opportunity to sing concerts with Barbara Bonney, perform Baroque opera with Andrew Lawrence-King and give about 100 performances annually including children´s shows, contemporary staged music and much more.

Amanda Flodin has a passion for expressivity, chamber music, coloratura, timing and stage communication. That makes her perfect for performing early and contemporary music. She is curious, brave and present! Her specialty is to magnetize the audience with her tonal beauty and her colourful expression.

2016 was a magic year for Amanda Falodin, with lots of dreams coming true! Together with Per T Buhre and Utomjordiska she created Witch, Bitch, Temptress, Feminist - a show about internet trolling towards women with Baroque music written by female composers and authentic texts from the internet. This was also the year for the world premiere of the contemporary chamber opera Akvarium, sang in Swedish about the climate change, being homeless and positive thinking. Akvarium was commissioned, produced and performed by the opera company Man Must Sing. Watch trailer! Finally she did a jump-in in the chamber opera The Bear with Opera Estrad at Kronhusteatern, and learnt the female leading part in only one week.

Amanda Flodin has been doing French Baroque opera in Swedish for teenagers, she has performed a staged version of the Kanarievogel-Kantate by Georg Philipp Telemann, she has been singing Orfeo in a queer version of Gluck’s opera, she world premiered five big solo pieces at the Ljudvågor Festival in Visby 2014, she has been singing with a megaphone on her head and with molded latex on her torso. Whatever music or context, Amanda always tries to express something important.

Amanda Flodin has sung as a soloist and/or ensemle member with Det Norske Solistkor (Director: Grete Pedersen), Copenhagen Renaissance Music Festival, Göteborg Baroque (Director: Magnus Kjellson), Ensemble Syd, Vokalharmonin, Copenhagen Soloists (Director: Jonathan Ofir), Musica Ficta, Göteborgs Domkyrka, Vokalkvartetten Vox, Svenska kyrkan i Uddevalla, Ars Nova Copenhagen (Director Paul Hillier), Man Must Sing. She currently lives in Gothenburg, Sweden.
