Clotilde van Dieren (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Brussels, Belgium

The Belgian mezzo-soprano, Clotilde van Dieren, began her musical education at the age of 5 with piano. She graduated from Brussels Conservatory in Drama and Singing, after a Bachelor of Philosophy. She participated in master-classes with Udo Reinemann, Christianne Stotijn, Christoph Prégardien, Wolfgang Holzmair, Julius Drake, Peter Kooij, Nadine Denize (2013-2014)…. She furthered Lied interpretation at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, with Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll (2014-2015).

Clotilde van Dieren's career began on stage and on screen, in Belgium and France, as an actress. That’s why, as a singer, she is naturally involved in creative projects like « De la nature de l’eau » from Georges Aperghis, « Litany for the wales » from John Cage, with two dancers of PARTS performed at Festival d’Automne in Paris, « Passionnément »: a poetical recital about love and passion with an actress and a pianist. In 2018, the poet Jacques Sojcher wrote for her « C’est toujours la Première fois » where she sings with accordionist Gwen Cresens. It was created in Brussels at Théâtre Poème 2 and staged by Ingrid von Wantoch Reikowski. From 2012 to 2020, in collaboration with « a Bridge between two worlds » from La Monnaie/De Munt, she regularly gave recitals in duo with cellist Edmond Carlier in prisons, community centers, schools to provide access to music and opera to everyone.

As a soloist, Clotilde van Dieren has been invited to Festival lyrique de Belle-île en mer, Festival Midis-Minimes, Brussels Summer Festival, Musicales de Beloeil, Festival de Vochora, Festival Mozart, Octobre Musical de Carthage, Concerts de Midis de Liège, Concertini of La Monnaie/De Munt, La Caravane musicale…with Ô-Celli octet, Brussels Chamber orchestra, Ensemble Passions de Femmes, Quatuor Alfama, La Chapelle des Minimes, Duo La Gioia…

Brilliant recitalist, Clotilde van Dieren has given recitals in Europe, New York and Rio de Janeiro with pianist Henry Kramer, Dalia Ouziel, Eliane Reyes, Giacomo Rocchetti, Mehdi Trabelsi, cellist Edmond Carlier, accordionist Gwen Cresens, violinist Philippe Graffin, Alexei Moskov, Daniel Rubenstein, violist Tony Nÿs, flutiste Aldo Baerten…

In 2016, Clotilde van Dieren sang Berlioz's Les Nuits d’été with Lithuanian National Opera Orchestra at Tytuvenai Festival, under direction of Robertas Servenikas. In 2017, she was reinvited to sing a recital « From classic to cabaret » in Siaulai Festival (Lituania). In 2019, she performed Weigl's Ein Stelldichein with a string sextet, during the Festival “Traces” created by Philippe Graffin in Brussels. Invited at Ysaye’s Knokke Festival, she shared the stage with Gerard Caussé and Jean-François Heisser, performing Johannes Brahms' Zwei Gesänge op 91. Among her projects, a CD recording with pianist Katsura Mizumoto with Belgian and French songs for Cypres Label.
