Adèle Charvet (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: May 25, 1993 - Montpellier, France

The French mezzo-soprano, Adèle Charvet, lived in New-York for up to the age of 5. She began studying music at the age of 6 and sang in the choir of Claire Marchand then at the Maîtrise de Radio France where she took part at the age of 9, in the choirs, in her very first opera, the musical tale of Julien Joubert, La Reine des glaces, in March 2003 in the amphitheatre of the opéra Bastille. In 2008, she joined the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris where she obtained her diplôme d'études musicales with the congratulations of the jury in 2013, before joining the singing classes of Yves Sotin and Professor Élène Golgevit at the Conservatoire de Paris. There, with the soprano Mariamielle Lamagat, the tenor Mathys Lagier and the baritone Edwin Fardini, she founded the vocal quartet "L'Archipel", which is invited in residence at the foundation Singer-Polignac. Prizes include: Prix d'honneur au Verbier Festival (2017); Prix Jeune Soliste 2020 of the Les Médias francophones publics (2019).

Adèle Charvet very first musical experience on stage was in the opera Brundibár by Hans Krása in which she sang the leading role Pepíček. From this enriching experience, she developed an irrepressible passion for Opera. With the Opéra 3 company, she sang the role of Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. In 2016 she sang the role of Frau Reich in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor by Otto Nicolai, in a production staged by Emmanuelle Cordoliani. She made her debut at the Dutch National Opera, singing the Polovtsian Maiden in Borodin’s Prince Igor, staged by Dmitri Tcherniakov and conducted by Stanislav Kochanovski. She sang Filippievna in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovski at the Verbier Festival. She made her debut on stage of the Royal Opera House as Mercédès in Georges Bizet's Carmen and also sang Adele in Il Pirata in a concert version, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Manon at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Manon at the Paris Opéra Comique, Idamant ein W.A. Mozart's with Opera Fuoco…

Very passionate about the Song and Lieder repertoire which she studied with David Selig and Anne le Bozec, Adèle Charvet formed in 2015 a duo with pianist Florian Caroubi with whom she obtained the Mélodie Prize at the International Lied and Song Competition Nadia and Lili Boulanger in Paris. In 2016, they won the Grand duo prize of the International Vocal Competition in ’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands - as well as the Junior Jury Prize, the prize for the Contemporary piece, the Dutch friend of Lied prize and the Press prize. They have since played at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, at the Petit Palais in Paris, at the Schmiermonnikoog Music Festival in Holland, and soon at de Singel in Antwerpen.

In 2017, Adèle Charvet had the opportunity to study in both Lied and Opera Academy of the Verbier. There, she sang in master-classes with Thomas Hampson, Thomas Quasthoff, Sir Thomas Allen and Anna Tomowa-Sintow. She was awarded the «Yves Paternot » prize for the most outstanding musician of the Academy, and was invited to perform as a soloist at the Festival. After Verbier, Thomas Hampson invited her to join his upcoming Lied Academy in Heidelberg.

More recently, Adèle Charvet sang Ascanio in Berlioz' Benvenuto Cellini with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra at the Berlioz Festival of La Côte-saint-André, in Berlin, at the Proms in London and in Versailles under the baton of John Eliot Gardiner. J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) at Bachfest Leipzig (2019), J. Haydn's Stabat Mater with Le Concert de la Loge and was involved in the Academy of the Aix-en-Provence Festival … She gave numerous recitals at the Deauville Festival, the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, the Jura Baroque Musique Festival, the Pont de Croix Festival, the Montevideo Escena Vocal Festival, with Le Poème Harmonique…

Among her projects, let us mention Stéphano in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette and Georges Bizet's Carmen (title role) with the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Serse with Opera Fuoco in a tour in China, Hermione in Cadmus et Hermione with Le Poème Harmonique at the Royal Opera of Versailles, Contessa Ceprano in Rigoletto and Mercédès in Carmen at the Paris National Opera, Flowermaiden in Parsifal in Toulouse, Pelléas et Mélisande (title role) in Rouen… She will sing in a W.A. Mozart program with the Ensemble Pygmalion under the baton of Raphaël Pichon. and will also be giving some recitals on a French tour for the release of her first CD "Long Time Ago" (mixes songs by American and British composers, recorded for Alpha Classics in February 2019, with Susan Manoff at the piano)…

On October 1. 2019, while attending a concert given by La Chapelle Harmonique under the direction of her friend Valentin Tournet at the Auditorium de Radio France, Adèle Charvet was is called at intermission to replace at the last minute the counter-tenor David Dong Qyu Lee, suffering, in George Frideric Handel's Messiah. The intermission is lengthened by twenty minutes to allow her to decipher the score and she received a standing ovation at the end of the concert. She was nominated in 2020 at the Victoires de la musique classique in the "Revelation, lyric artist" category. She composed a noted Mélisande for her role in the Rouen Opera House production broadcast on January 26, 2021 on the Norman TV Channel.
