Emma Calo (Soprano)

Born: San Luis Potosí, Mexico

The Mexican soprano, Emma Calo, participated since her childhood and adolescence in competitions and festivals organized by the Escuela Secundaria Técnica No. 14 and the Colegio de Bachilleres Plantel No. 28, institutions where she studied basic and upper-secondary education. In 2007 she represented the Colegio de Bachilleres plantel No. 28 in the category of solo singing, rondalla and musician-vocal ensemble where she obtained 1st and 2nd place during her school term in different municipalities of the state of San Luis Potosí.

In August 2010, Emma Calo joined as a soprano the coro Domus Cantorum del estudio de Bel Canto de la Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí, a university where she graduated as an Industrial Systems and Technologies Engineer (2010-2015), presenting Classical, Baroque and Mexican repertoire works. In 2011 she entered private singing lessons with teacher Martha Graciela Negrete Moreno, director of the same choir, who perfected her vocal technique and with whom she discovered her potential as an opera singer. After completing an anthology of ancient arias, she constantly prepared her to perform opera arias of great difficulty.

In 2012 Emma Calo entered the Ensamble Músico Vocal Religioso directed by the teacher Martha Negrete, where she has worked as a solo soprano and in May of the same year she had her second participation as a soloist with the Coro de la Fraternidad Educativa. She had the opportunity to represent at the National level the la Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí in the category of individual singing in 2014, where she obtained the 2nd Place. In the same year she participated in the national choir encounter in Tepic, Nayarit where she joined with other choirs from different states.

In 2015 Emma Calo participated in the Festival de Música Antigua y Barroca in the former convent of San Agustín. In 2017 she had the opportunity to participate in the Reallity Show “La Voz México” (6th season), Laura Pausini being her coach. Her talent has been recognized in various parts of the world through social networks and she has had the opportunity to perform in other states such as Puebla, Guadalajara, Zacatecas, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Aguascalientes, among others. Since July 2017, she has been soprano singer and Artistic Director of the opera company Vita Voce in San Luis Potosí. In January 2018, she was awarded the Andrés Henestrosa gold parchment of merit for her career at the Teatro Macedonio Alcalá in the state of Oaxaca. She participated in the Festival Internacional de Ópera en Oaxaca y San Luis Potosí as an active student. She participated as a hearing student in the master-class with South Korean soprano Sumi Jo. During her career, she has participated in recitals and concerts as a soloist in various theaters and museums of San Luis Potosí, among other venues, interpreting highly recognized arias of great difficulty. Currently, she continues to prepare herself with the teacher Liliana del Conde.
