The Canadian counter-tenor, Nicholas Burns, studied music at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University in Montréal, graduating with Bachelor of Music degree in June 2017. At Opéra McGill, he sang in Blow's Venus & Adonis (November 2014), Polinesso in George Frideric Handel's Ariodante (November 2017), and the lead role of King Bertarido in G.F. Handel's Rodelinda (April 2016).
Nicholas Burns performs throughout North America and is known for his “thrilling voice” (Opera Canada). He has performed recent solo oratorio engagements with Canadian groups including Ensemble Caprice (Director: Matthias Maute), Montréal Baroque (Director: Eric J. Milnes), Festival international de musique baroque de Lamèque, and le Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal, as well as with American Bach Soloists (Director: Jeffrey Thomas). The recipient of many awards, his recent engagements include Monteverdi’s Vespers with the American Bach Soloists, J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass (BWV 232), St. John Passion (BWV 245) and St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Ensemble Caprice, and G.F. Handel's Messiah with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. In the upcoming 2018-2019 season, he will feature with Early Music Vancouver for performances of Monteverdi’s 1620 Vespers, Les Idées heureuses for performances of J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 169, and will return for a one per part performance of J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with American Bach Soloists. |
