Britt Brown (Mezzo-soprano)

The American mezzo-soprano, Britt Brown, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from Stetson University; and her Master of Music degree from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. During the 2016-2017 season included her winning the 1st place Prize in the NATSAA recital competition for the New England Region and the Lee Cass Award at the National Competition in Chicago.

Versatile mezzo-soprano Britt Brown is a sought-after interpreter of a wide variety of repertoire throughout the Boston area and beyond. She had the pleasure of premiering composer Amber Vistein’s chamber opera for mezzo, electronics, and quartet, Man will not outlive the weather, at Brown University (February 2017). An active oratorio singer and recitalist, she was a featured soloist Rockport Music's Lecture 101 Series for the second season (November 2016); as a recitalist with The Boston Art Song Society (October 2016), and was seen as the title character in Argento’s From the Diary of Virginia Woolf; and in a staged production with Robert Schumann's Frauen liebe und -leben at the historic Zabriskie House mansion in Cambridge (January 2017).

Britt Brown's notable engagements in 2017-2018 season include the premiere of Dream Songs with internationally-acclaimed violinist Olga Patramanska-Bell at Juventas New Music (September 2017), Boston Lyric Opera in Puccini’s Tosca (October 2017), a recital with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the Curtisville Consortium in Lenox, Massachusetts (August 2017), creating the role of Tatlanthe in Andy Vores’ Chrononhotonthologos with Guerrilla Opera (November 2017), starring in the Boston premiere of Kaminsky’s As One with Boston Opera Collaborative in the spring, and principal opera roles with MASSOpera, Lowell House Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, and others.

In the 2018-2019 season, Britt Brown sang the role of Gretchen in Marti Epstein’s new opera Rumpelstiltskin in Boston (March 2019) and at the National Opera Center, NYC (May 2019), appeared as The Mother in the Boston premiere of The Scarlet Ibis at Boston Opera Collaborative (January 2019), and debuted as The Leading Player in Pippin with Music on Norway Pond (February 2019). On the concert stage, she bowed as mezzo-soprano soloist in Leonard Bernstein’s Jeremiah Symphony with Orchestra of Indian Hill (September 2018), the oratorio Cain by Newell Hendricks with Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra (March 2019), and the premiere of Francine Trester’s Sekelela alongside Triple Helix Piano Trio (April 2019).

During the 2019-2020 season, Britt Brown created the role of Lavinia in the world premiere of Amber Vistein’s opera Dark Exhalation at the Granoff Center at Brown University (April 2020 & September 2021) and returns to Boston Opera Collaborative as Johnna in Jonathan Bailey Holland’s Naomi in the Living Room (November 2019). As mezzo-soprano soloist, she will perform Peter Lieberson’s Neruda Songs with Indian Hill Orchestra (January 2020), L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with New Philharmonia Orchestra (May 2020), and a program of operatic favorites with Symphony by the Sea (November 2019.

Britt Brown performs regularly in the professional ensembles of Boston Lyric Opera, Odyssey Opera, Boston Midsummer Opera (June 2015-August 2021), Opera Collaborative, MetroWest Opera, Beth Morrison Projects, and Odyssey Opera. She is a staff singer with St. Andrew’s Episcopal in Wellesley, Massachusetts, cantorial soloist at Temple Sinai in Sharon, Massachusetts. She is now based in Boston.
