The German tenor, Karl-Heinz Brandt, studied singing at the Musikhochschule in Detmold and completed his studies by master-classes with René Jacobs, Max van Egmond and KS Erika Köth.
Karl-Heinz Brandt was engaged at Stadttheater Aachen and at the Musiktheater in Gelsenkirchen in the Ruhr. Besides roles as Monostatos, Pedrillo, and the title role in Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten, he sang David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by R. Wagner. From 1993 to 1998 he appeared as guest at various opera houses and festivals. In addition, he is a sought-after concert and oratorio singer at home and abroad as, especially as the Evangelist in the Passions and cantatas by J.S. Bach. Since 1998-1999, he is an ensemble member at the Theater Basel. Here he sang in numerous productions including the last three stagings of H. Wernicke, with music by J.S. Bach, Heinrich Schütz and George Frideric Handel. Still fresh in the memories are his Gottesnarr in Boris Godunov and his Dr. Siedler in Im weissen Rössl.. In the 2003-2004 season he performed in five different W.A. Mozart productions at the Staatsoper Hanover.
In addition to the various opera roles Karl-Heinz Brandt is also a Lieder singer. Most recently, he was heard in Dichterliebe by R. Schumann in a special version with the actor Klaus Brömmelmeier. In recent seasons, he particpated in productions of L’amour des trois oranges, Don Carlos, Zaide • Adama, Sekretärinnen, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, L’Orfeo, Carmina burana, ¡Pasión! and most recently in Der fliegende Holländer. |
