Tim Braithwaite (Counter-tenor, Baritone)

Born: The Hague, the Netherlands

The Dutch counter-tenor, baritone and music teacher, Tim Braithwaite, read Music at Royal Holloway University of London, where he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree (2011-2014); and continued his studies in Early Music Singing and Early Music Theory at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (2018-2020).

Based in The Netherlands, Tim Braithwaite's career is multi-faceted within the broad field of "Early Music." As a performer, he enjoys a regular concert schedule, appearing both as a soloist as well as with a number of leading ensembles within the field of 'Early Music' including Cappella Pratensis (since January 2016), Amsterdam Baroque (Director: Ton Koopman), Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier), and De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Directors: Jos van Veldhoven / Shunske Sato). He is founder (September 2018) and Artistic Director of the Early Music Initiative Cacophony!

In addition to his active performing career, Tim Braithwaite is in demand as both a lecturer and workshop leader at a number of top European conservatoires. He now lectures on the history of singing alongside teaching practical classes on historical vocal pedagogy and improvisation at the the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (since March 2019). He has also been invited to teach at institutions such as the University of Amsterdam, Het Utrechts Conservatorium, and the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen, focusing particularly on issues in performance practice before 1600.
