Barbara Borden (Soprano)

Born: USA

The American soprano, Barbara Borden, began her musical studies at the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, USA) and completed her degree in vocal performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Ohio). She then moved to the Netherlands where she continued her study with Max van Egmond and Herman Woltman.

Barbara Borden has been a member of the Nederlands Kamerkoor since 1982 and has also appeared with many other ensembles. Among these are The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips), Hilliard Ensemble, Concerto Palatino, Tragicomedia and Les Arts Florissants.

Specialising in early music and that of the 20th century, Barbara Borden appears regularly as a soloist throughout Europe and has worked with such conductors as Iván Fischer, Ton Koopman, René Jacobs, Reinbert de Leeuw and Hartmut Haenchen.

Barbara Borden has made many radio and CD recordings, including several with Tragicomedia and a recording of Monteverdi’s Maria Vespers conducted by René Jacobs, which came out in 1995.

Barbara Borden made her opera debut in 1983 in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with l’Opera Lyrique du Rhin.
