Anastasia Bondareva (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Russia

The Russian mezzo-soprano, Anastasia Bondareva, graduated from the Academic Music College of the Moscow Conservatory after studying organ and classical singing. She also completed studies in classical singing at the V.S. Popov Academy of Choral Singing. She developed and perfected her singing by attending master-classes with Michael Chance, Benjamin Bagby, Marc Mauillon and Jean-François Novelli. She is also a laureate of international competitions.

Anastasia Bondareva is a specialist in opera and chamber music. She specialises in performances of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music. She sings in large-scale international projects; performances of European and Russian Baroque operas at the Hermitage Theatre in St Petersburg, the Moscow Philharmonia, the St Petersburg Philharmonia, and The Natalia Sats Children’s Theatre in Moscow. Her repertoire includes the roles of Cybele in Lully's Atys; Dido and The Sorceress in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas (her performance of Dido was noted by the nominating commission on the long list for the “Golden Mask” awards in 2020); Venus and Daughter of the Stream in Purcell's King Arthur; Mother in Landi's Il Sant'Alessio; Tirinto in George Frideric Handel's Imeneo; Venus in Monteverdi's Ariadna, in the reconstruction by Andrew Lawrence-King) and others.

Anastasia Bondareva works with such leading musicians as Andrew Lawrence-King, Marc Mauillon, Jean-François Novelli, Thierry Peteau. She collaborates with all the leading Russian early music ensembles including Alta Capella, Pratum Integrum, Ensemble Labyrinthus, The Soloists of Catherine the Great, Chronos, Globus Music, The Baroque Soloists, Collegium Musicum Ensemble, Moscow, and the Medievallica project.

Anastasia Bondareva constantly participates in international Early Music festivals, including Earlymusic, Musica Mensurata, Tage Alter Music Regensburg, La Renaissance, and also the Russian festivals “Seeing Music”, “Moscow Autumn”, “Vozvraschenie”. During the international Musica Mensurata festival of medieval music she has performed such unique programmes as “The Conductus of Walter of Châtillon”, English music of the 13th Century, “Roman de Fauvel” (the compositions of Philippe de Vitry, Jehan de Lescurel, Petrus de Cruce and unknown French composers of the 14th Century). Since 2017 she has performed in the “All of Bach Cantatas” project with Roman Nasonov and the Collegium Musicum Ensemble, Moscow at the Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Cathedral of Moscow.

As part of Ensemble Labyrinthus Anastasia Bondareva has been featured on CD recordings for “Carmina Anglica”, “Carmina Tripodium”, “Medieval marriage music”, with Chronos ensemble she has recorded “Life of the Most Holy Theotokos. Old Russian polyphony”; “Early Part Singing from the time of Peter the Great. Divine Liturgy”; “Early Part Singing. Evangelical hymns”.

Anastasia Bondareva is the director of the Ex Oriente Lux vocal ensemble of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Moscow.
