Ingela Bohlin (Soprano)

Born: November 9, 1970 - Lund, Sweden

The Sedish soprano, Ingela Bohlin, studied at the Malmö College of Music and graduated from the University College of Opera in Stockholm in 2002. In the same year she made her Chicago Opera Theater debut singing Fiordiligi in a new production of W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte conducted by Jane Glover. Another important early production was a touring project Wolf, a staging of W.A. Mozart excerpts by choreographer Alain Platel, in Duisburg, Berlin, Gent, Brussels and Amsterdam, culminating in performances at L’Opéra de Paris.

Ingela Bohlin’s roles have included Amor in Orfeo ed Eurydice, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. During the years 1996-1999 she was a member of the Schwedischer Rundfunkchor (Swedish Radio Choir). She appears as a concert and oratorio singer in works such as Haydn’s Creation, W.A. Mozart's Exsultate, Jubilate and Requiem, and George Frideric Handel’s Messiah.

Recent opera appearances have included Susanna in Figaro and Hanako Hosokawa in Hanjo at La Monnaie; Despina in Così fan tutte and Morgana in Alcina for Netherlands Opera; the title role in Poppea and Morgana in Alcina at Drottningholms Slottsteater; Anne Truelove for Gothenberg Opera; Drusilla in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Theater an der Wien; G.F. Handel’s Il Trionfo de Il Tempo and Aspasia in Tamerlano at the Teatro Real, Madrid; Ismene in Mitridate at the Salzburg Festival with Marc Minkowski; Iole in Hercules for Paris Opera, Wiener Festwochen, Netherlands Opera and in New York with William Christie; Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte for Paris Opera; Hanako in the world premiere of Hosokawa’s Hanjo at the Aix-en-Provence Festival conducted by Kazushi Ono; and, in concert, Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Jean-Christophe Spinosi in Paris and Angelica in G.F. Handel’s Orlando with Al Ayre Espanol.

Current and future plans include Anne Truelove in Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress for Opéra National de Lorraine, Nancy, a new George Benjamin opera for Netherlands Opera in 2012, and Purcell’s The Fairy Queen in Paris with Le Concert Spirituel; J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Francis Poulenc’s Stabat Mater with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

Ingela Bohlin is an established concert singer and has worked extensively throughout Sweden including appearances with Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Malmö Symphony Orchestra. She has also appeared with Les Talens Lyriques conducted by Christophe Rousset; has sung W.A. Mozart’s orchestration of Messiah at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival with Ivor Bolton; W.A. Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with the Mozarteum Orchestra at the Salzburg Summer Festival with Yannick Nézet-Séguin; J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra; Johannes Brahms’s Requiem with the Residentie Orkest Den Haag and Klaus Peter Flor; W.A. Mozart's Requiem with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Manfred Honneck; J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) with Zürich Tonhalle Orchestra under Paul McCreesh and took part in a concert tour and recording of Bruckner’s Mass in F with the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées and Philippe Herreweghe.
