Plamen Beykov (Baritone)

Born: 1967 - Svishtov, Bulgaria

The Bulgarian baritone, Plamen Beykov [Пламен Бейков], completed his secondary education in 1986 in Sofia - at the National High School for Ancient Languages and Cultures "Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher". He specialized at the Bulgarian Academy of Arts and Culture “Boris Christoff” in Rome under the main pedagogical guidance of the famous Bulgarian bass Boris Hristov (1990-1991); and graduated in opera singing from the Royal College of Music in London (1993-1997). He participated in the master-classes of the Italian soprano Graciela Schutti and the English bass baritone Stephen Roberts.

Over the next decade, Plamen Beykov developed a respectful concert repertoire, which includes chamber works of about 200 songs - works by the most prominent European composers of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and New Age, as well as numerous cantatas, masses and oratorios. All of them, along with the main bass and some bass-baritone dramatic and comic roles, he has performed in all Bulgarian opera houses and concert halls, as well as in most European countries, the USA, Russia and Japan. He has participated in productions of the national opera theaters of Bulgaria - Sofia, Tatarstan - Kazan and Bosnia and Herzegovina - Sarajevo. Among the most prestigious stages are Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Palau de la Musica Catalana and Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, Tchaikovsky Hall and Svetlanov Hall at the International House of Music in Moscow, the Grand Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg. Decisive in the development of the singer remain the meetings and work with prominent artists such as Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Gian Janotti, Boyko Bogdanov, Marko Boemi, Naiden Todorov.

Plamen Beykov has a special weakness for the research and performances of Byzantine and Bulgarian church chants in the Byzantine style, which he recorded and presented in Bulgaria and abroad until 2015 with the vocal formation "Yulangelo".

Since the autumn of 1997, after being associated with the Royal College of Music - London, Plamen Beykov organized his own private class in singing and vocal-dramatic interpretation in Sofia, where he taught for the next 10 years. Since September 2007, he has been a soloist at the Rousse State Opera in Ruse, Bulgaria. One of his personal causes in the work at the Ruse Opera are educational concerts and initiatives. Since the fall of 2016, he has been studying music and stage directing at the State Music Academy "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia in the class of Associate Professor Violeta Gorcheva.

Plamen Beykov has recorded for the BNR and BNT funds, as well as for the labels Balkanton, Gega, Mega and Naxos. He currently lives in Sofia, Bulgaria.
