Maeve Berry (Piano, Soprano)

Born: January 1997 - Renfrew, Pennsylvania, USA

The American pianist, soprano singer, music theorist, and vocal coach, Maeve Berry, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance magna cum laude from The Pennsylvania State University (2015-2019), where she studied with Dr. Christopher Guzman. She received several awards throughout her college years, including the prestigious Presser Scholarship in 2018. In the spring of 2019, she was awarded the Creative Achievement Award from the College of Arts and Architecture and was also inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda at Penn State. She was Organist/Pianist at St. Fidelis Parish in Meridian, Pennsylvania (May 2009-2019). At Penn State University, she was: Student Accompanist (August 2015-May 2019); Music Theory Tutor (August 2018-May 2019); Member of the team that runs the social media accounts for The Penn State School of Music (July 2017-June 2019). She was also Soprano Section Leader at University Baptist and Brethren Church as well as the substitute organist at this parish for 2 years (September 2017-June 2019).

Maeve Berry obtained her Master of Music degree in Piano Accompanying (collaborative piano) and Chamber Music from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2019-2021), under the direction of Dr. Andrew Harley. At Eastman, she holds a graduate assistantship in Studio Accompanying. In her first year, she was involved in the 2020 Friends of Eastman Opera Aria competition with one of her singers. While at Eastman, she has received awards for excellence in vocal collaboration including the Barbara M. Koeng Award (2020) and the Jean Barr Award. During her Master’s degree, she completed an Advanced Certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy. In spring 2020, she began her research on Sergei Rachmaninov's song repertoire, assisted by Dr. Sarah Marlowe, which culminated in her lecture recital in Fall 2023. In 2020-2021, she served as the Marketing and Outreach chair for Eastman’s Graduate Student Association. She is also an active member in Schola Cantorum at Christ Church in Rochester. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Accompanying and Chamber Music with Dr. Andrew Harley at Eastman (since 2021; expected graduation: 2024), where she serves as a studio accompanying graduate assistant and a music theory teaching assistant (July 2020-May 2021).

Maeve Berry attended the Brevard Music Center in 2017, where she studied with Norman Krieger for three weeks. In the summer of 2019, she traveled to Germany with The Penn State Concert Choir, where she sang with the choir and played the organ in cities like Leipzig, Dresden, and Berlin. She has also been a collaborative pianist for faculty recitals during the Cleveland Trombone Institute and the Penn State Honors Music Institute. In the summer of 2020, she was invited to Songfest LA and the Toronto Summer Music Festival to be a vocal piano fellow. She pursued these positions in summer 2021. She has appeared at various other festivals including Source Song Festival. She also has performed on concert series including Live Music at the George Eastman Museum, Christ Church Candlelight Series, and the Cleveland Trombone Institute. She has studied song repertoire with Wolfram Rieger, Graham Johnson, Martin Katz, Warren Jones, and Margot Garrett. She has also worked with esteemed composers including Jake Heggie, Libby Larsen, Tom Cipullo, Ben Moore, and John Musto. She is currently based in Rochester, New York.
