Orkestra Akademik Başkent (Orchestra)

Founded: October 2003 - Ankara, Turkey

On October 29, 2003, Orkestra Akademik Başkent (= OAB) was founded by Başkent Üniversitesi Founder and Chairman of the Executive Board Prof. Mehmet Haberal. Under the conductor Orhun Orhon, the orchestra realized numerous concert tours in various cities and abroad connected outside the campus and the periodic concerts in various concert halls as well as Turkey, Ankara, gave the festival concerts. There are a wide range of works from the Baroque period to the contemporary music. The orchestra has given world premiers of many works by Aneleen Lenaerts, Benyamin Sönmez, Cihat Aşkın, Emre Elivar, Emre Şen, Enrique Batiz, Gökhan Aybulus, Gülsin Onay, Gürer Aykal, Idil Biret, İgor Pikayzen, Lucienne Renaudin-Vary, Martin Berkofsky, Davide Alogna, Salvatore Accardo, Soyoung Yoon, Rocco Filippini, Gustav Rivinius and has played with many renowned soloists and conductors such as Rocco Filippini, Gustav Rivinius. The orchestra performed at St. Petersburg Piano Festival and was invited by UNESCO to give the first concert of this festival organized as part of 60th anniversary of Turkey. The group was invited to Baku in 2017 as part of the Üzeyir Hacıbeyov International Festival. The orchestra recorded Turkish Guitar Concertos published by Çağsav.
