Born: Colorado, USA

The American baritone, Scott Ballantine, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from Northern Arizona University in 2013; and his Master's of Music degree in Voice Performance at The Boston Conservatory in 2015.

A recent young artist in Natchez, Mississippi (2019), he performed the role of Miles Gloriosus in Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and covered Marcello in La Bohème. Following his time in Mississippi, he returned to North Carolina, performing Schaunard in La Bohème (2019) for the fourth time since 2015.

In the 2018-2019 season, Scott Ballantine was a young artist with the Janiec Opera Company in Brevard, North Carolina, where he had his role debut as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, covered the role of Maximillian in Leonard Bernstein's Candide, and was a Street Singer Soloist in L. Some of his various credits with BOC include Hannah Before in As One, Father in The Scarlet Ibis, Valmont in The Dangerous Liaisons, Sid in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring and the title role in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni.

In the 2019-2020 season, Scott Ballantine looks forward to several company and role debuts including performances with Opera Theater of Cape Cod (Marcello in La Bohème), Barn Opera (Papageno in W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute), Opera for the Young (Pirate King and Major General in their touring production of Pirates of Penzance), St. Petersburg Opera Company (Marullo in Rigoletto) and Mississippi Opera (Pâris in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette).

Equally at home in musical theatre, Scott Ballantine e was a festival artist with Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre in 2017, singing Oliver Hix in The Music Man and covering Captain Phoebus in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. With the festival, he sang on numerous outreach concerts, cabarets and had the opportunity to Cover the role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly.

In addition to ongoing stage productions, Scott Ballantine performs year-round in the Boston area: at restaurants and bars with Opera on Tap (bringing music to the masses), in professional holiday caroling gigs, as baritone section leader of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, and various outreach events.
