Katrin Auzinger (Mezzo-soprano, Cello)

Born: February 4, 1982 - Linz, Austria

The Austrian mezzo-soprano, cellist and voice teacher, Katrin Auzinger, began her musical education there at the Musikschule Linz at the age of 7 or 9 at the piano and on the violoncello. Prizes and active concert work on the violoncello as a soloist and chamber musician: in 1996 she won the 2nd prize in the national competition "Prima la Musica", in 1998 she won the 1st prize and in the following national competition the 2nd prize. Furthermore, in 1997 she played with the Wiener Kammerorchester under Yehudi Menuhin at Schloss Esterhazy the 1st movement of Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in D Major ("Kleines Haydn D-Dur-Konzert"). In 2000 she was a finalist of the "International Competition for Violoncello" in Liezen.

Katrin Auzinger started her academic studies at the Mozarteum Salzburg, where she studied cello with Heidi Litschauer in 1998 and her first singing studies in the preparation class of Kieljaug Tesaker in 2000. This was followed by a degree in Solo Singing at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien. Her teachers there included Kammersängerin Margarita Lilova, Professor Claudia Visca, in the subject "Lied and Oratorio" Kammersängerin Edith Mathis and Professor Robert Holl and Reto Nickler in the subject of "Music Dramatic Representation". In the winter semester 2008-2009, she completed a study semester as part of the Erasmus exchange program at the Musikhochschule Köln under Professor Josef Protschka. She received her diploma in cello at the Kunstuniversität Graz in 2007.

Katrin Auzinger made her first opera experience in 2005 as Fidalma in The Secret Marriage by Cimarosa. In 2007 she sang the Eustazia in Rinaldo by George Frideric Handel in St. Pölten as part of the der St. Pöltener Barockfestspiele, performed Ruggiero in G.F. Handel's Alcina at Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in 2008 and Piacere in Cavalli's church opera Rappresentatione di Anima e di Corpo at Peterskirche Wien and last summer interpreted Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Sommeroper Klosterneuburg.

Katrin Auzinger is the winner of the international competitions Petyrek-Lang-Liedwettbewerb 2006 and 2009 in Vienna (2nd and 3rd prize) as well as Francesco Vinas 2009 in Barcelona (German Lied Prize) and finalist of the competition Musica Sacra 2008 in Rome and of the duo competition Schubert und die Musik der Moderne 2009 in Graz. She also received the Workshoppreis of the entire Sommerakademie Wörgl 2008 following the master-class awith Kammersängerin Christa Ludwig.

In January 2010, Katrin Auzinger graduated with honors in the subject "Lied und Oratorium". Her wide-ranging Lieder repertoire covers all style epochs to the present. She is regularly heard as a concert, Lieder and oratorio singer, performing in the recent past, etc. in the Konzerthaus as well as in the Musikverein Wien.

Katrin Auzinger has been in charge of the Klingende classroom at the OVS Hadersdorf since September 2012, and the children's choir since 2013 in the KIWI-Hort at Hietzinger Kai. She currently lives in Vienna, Austria.
