The American soprano, Sarah Asmar, began her musical studies as a violinist. She obtained both her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Perfrmance from Boston University. She was a New England Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was awarded First Prize and the Roger Wertenberger Audience Choice Award in the Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition. Sarasota Opera awarded her the Bradenton Opera Guild’s Helen Jepson Dellera Fellowship Award.
As a vocalist, Sarah Asmar was hailed for “her radiant and robust singing” by the Washington Post and given praise for “her crystalline soprano” by The Minneapolis Star Tribune. She has been seen on operatic and concert stages across the country. Her operatic roles include Ofelia in Faccio’s Amleto with OperaDelaware, Gilda in Rigoletto with Baltimore Concert Opera, Yum-Yum in The Mikado with Hawaii Opera Theatre, Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni with Sarasota Opera, Musetta in La Bohème, and Desdemona in Otello with Opera Southwest. She has also performed with Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Boston, Opera Idaho, Skylark Opera, and Ohio Light Opera (2005-2007). On the concert stage, she is honored to have appeared with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra in George Frideric Handel's Messiah, and, most recently, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for G.F. Handel's Messiah, and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria.
Sarah Asmar joined The Music Series at South Church, New Britain, Connecticut as Managing Director at the start of the 2018-2019 season (October 2018). In addition to maintaining her own private voice studio, she is currently teaching at Loomis Chaffee in Windsor, Connecticut (2016-2019) and served on the faculty at The Hotchkiss School from 2012-2015. She also works with OperaDelaware in Wilmington as Grant Writer (August 2018-March 2021) and Development Associate (since April 2021). She curently lives in West Hartford, Connecticut. |
