Pierre Arpin (Tenor)

Born: 1993 - Thônon-les-Bains, France

The French tenor, Pierre Arpin, discovered music at the age of 6 by joining the Maîtrise du Conservatoire Populaire de Musique de Genève, with which he sang as a chorister and soloist (notably at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, as well as at Victoria Hall). He also studied the piano, then the organ. At 14, he moved to Lausanne, where he joined special classes for elite artists at the Gymnase Auguste-Piccard and joined the Vocalists of the Conservatoire de Lausanne, under the direction of Henri Farge, then Philippe Huttenlocher. It is in this context that he cut his teeth as a solo tenor (in pieces such as cantatas by J.S. Bach, madrigals by Monteverdi, operas by Purcell, Händel, etc. and works of contemporary music). After obtaining his baccalaureate, he began a Bachelor's degree in Musicology, History and Egyptology at the Université de Genève, while continuing to sing (in Lausanne, with Stéphanie Burkhard). In 2015, he decided to focus only on singing and joined the pre-professional course at the Conservatoire de Lausanne, then began a Bachelor of Singing at the Haute École de Musique de Genève in 2016, in the class of Stuart Patterson. He also studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (Germany), and is currently (as of 2023) pursuing his professional studies at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, where he is also a member of the Eastman Chorale (Director: William Weinert).

Pierre Arpin had the opportunity to participate as a soloist in the production of M. Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges at the Rencontres Musicales Internationales d'Enghien and at the Cercle Royal Gaulois in Brussels in 2014 and 2015, under the direction of by Henri Farge. In 2016, he took on the role of Gernando in J. Haydn's L'Isola disabitata, at the Académie d'été de La Petite Bande under the direction of Sigiswald Kuijken (Collevecchio, 2016), then, in February 2017, that of the Evangelist in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 with the Vocalistes du Conservatoire de Lausanne, conducted by Philippe Huttenlocher. In August 2017, he sang Johannes Brahms' Liebeslieder Walzer in a vocal quartet for the opening concert of the Rencontres musicales internationales d'Enghien and in September 2017, he took his first steps at the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne with a soloist role in the Passion selon Marc by Michaël Lévinas, with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne on the occasion of the Musica de Strasbourg festival. Later, he was Ernst Ludwig in J. Kander's Cabaret at the Théâtre du Galpon (Geneva, 2019). Then, with the Opernschule of the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, he sang the role of Lover in G. Menotti Amelia goes to the ball (2020), Lotteringhi in F. von Suppé's Boccaccio (2022), then Barigoule in P. Viardot's Cinderella (2022). With Les Argonautes (Director: Jonas Descotte), he performed the Sailor in their album "Dido & Æneas" by H. Purcell (released in autumn 2022).

Pierre Arpin often collaborates with the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, the Ensemble Vocal de Poche and Les Argonautes. Recently in Switzerland, he was heard as a soloist in G. Puccini's Missa di Gloria at the Victoria Hall in Geneva with the Chœur de l'Université de Genève (November 2021), and in G. Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle in Lausanne with the Chœur des Gymnases Vaudois (May 2022). Alongside his career in classical music, he sings and plays guitar in several jazz/rock bands.
