Gift Anyagwochu (Baritone)

Born: July 15, ____ - Owerri, Imo, Nigeria

The Nigerian baritone, Gift Anyagwochu, graduated from the department of Mathematics of the University of Lagos, Nigeria (August 2010-2015). He also graduated and completed his two years diploma program in Music (voice) at the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) diploma school of music (2016-2018), where he studied under Joseph oparamanuike. In 2018, he won the best Bel Canto voice in the Muson diploma school of music. He is currently (since December 2020) a graduate performance diploma student at the Longy school of music and is studying voice under David Small.

Having had his first professional voice tutor in 2016, Gift Anyagwochu's repertoire expanded from George Frideric Handel to Rossini, W.A. Mozart, Arthur and Sullivan, Donizetti, and a few others. Growing up to be one of the best operatic baritones in Nigeria, he has also helped in tutoring other young singers who aspire to sing opera.

After graduating from the University of Lagos and The MUSON Diploma School of Music, Gift Anyagwochu ventured into making music a healing art by performing for children with autism, cerebral palsy and for patients with mental disorder, thereby partnering with Healing power of Music (HIPM) and Arts in Medicine (Aim). He has taught music (voice) to students ranging from ages 8 to 65 both in schools and private studio. Helping each student interpret and deliver music on their own, bringing out each hidden expressions in each note.

Gift Anyagwochu performs widely in concert and has given recitals at venues including the MUSON Virtual Festival, Joseph in Recital and a few. He made his Muson Opera debut in 2017 as Papegeno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and has since sung FIgaro in Il Barbiere di Sivglia, Masetto in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni and Jack Point in Yeomen of the Guard for Muson Opera. He has also sung in many choruses such as Donizetti's La Fille Du Regiment, Puccini's La Boheme, G.F. Handel's Judas Maccabeus, etc. In November 2021, he performed the role of Melisso in George Frideric Handel's opera Alcina at the Longy School of Music.

Growing up to be one of the best operatic baritones in Nigeria, Gift Anyagwochu has also helped in tutoring other young singers who aspire to sing opera. He aspires to be one of the best African Baritones to perform in major Opera houses both local and international. He enjoys spending time with family and friends during holidays. He currently lives in in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He is Opera singer baritone at Boston Opera Collaborative (since October 2021).
